Has anyone ever tried using a 50 liter keg and a refrigerated cooler like the one pictured controlled with a PID/thermowell? I have to refrigerated cooler and am looking for the keg. I think this should yield a system similar to a jacketed glycol setup at a fraction of the price.

I'll assume you mean for a kegerator...Anything that holds a cool temp can be a kegerator....drill a hole through the lid install a tower and your good to go. Glycol is only used for long distance lines.

No, I'm wanting to ferment and control temps. I live in South Carolina and it gets hot down here. This has the potential to lager in my garage. I'm just trying to see if anyone has attempted this yet as I am on the hunt for a 50 liter keg to ferment in.

If it has the ability to get to lager temps then a controller will maintain those temps

Why are you looking for a 50L. Isn't that around a 13 gallon fermenter? Are you looking to ferment ten gallon at a time?

Yes, I do 10 gallon brews that I split with whomever I brew with. The 15.5 sanke is just a tad too wide for this particular unit. This makes the 50 liter ideal.
