I've decided to buy 2 3 gallon fast ferments. I picked up the first today, and am hoping to get someone to trade me for my 7 gallon (barely used).

The quality appears excellent, and Fast Ferment has a new tubular gasket in the lid, a far better design than the crummy thin flat foam seal......... good job

The 3 gallon unit accepts ordinary small mouth mason jars instead of the silly plastic yeast ball...... Good Job

(these two items address my only ******* with the 7 gallon FF, and both look to be convertible)

The 3 gallon unit comes with a table top stand, which allows you to put it right to work without either bolting a hanger to the wall or ordering a wire stand...........Again Good Job

The 3 gallon unit has a threaded depression that looks like it is designed to accept either a thermowell or a directly threaded sample port........ Unfortunately I don't have a spigot on hand that is not in use to check this. The location looks like it is probably for a sample port.

The 3 gallon unit has no provision for a thermowell......... BAD JOB.....

The three gallon unit lacks the pivot pins for a wall mount..... But I don't consider that a big negative. They should however offer a C shaped wall mount, or full ring wall mount as an accessory.

All in all it's a good value at just over $50. They got most it right...... The lack of a thermowell is the only real failing. The wall mount could be an accessory offered later, or I could fabricate one if I really wanted one.

I've ranged from 2 gallons to 7 gallons per brew, but gravitate to 2-2.5 gallon batch size because I like to brew more often. This is perfect. With the 7 gallon unit, I filled the yeast ball twice per brew. The first fill was trub, the second during the clean up phase was my yeast collection. It's an elegant solution, and very simple. The bottom piece below the valve can be switched from yeast ball to a hose barb for bottling, kegging or transferring to secondary. I probably will install a sample port before brewing with this.......

PS If you are in Montana and interested in the 7 gallon unit, PM me.

Note that the threaded boss does not match up to the threads of any of the spigots for brew buckets or ice tea jugs. It also does not match pipe thread, so it's obviously a proprietary thread......... which sucks!!
