I have 2 batches going. I'm using using Wyeast 2124 for lagering. It's in my basement and the ambient temp has been steady at 52-53. Right now the temp seems to be dipping below 50 to 49 degrees. I think the Wyeast range is 48-58. What can I do from keeping it from getting to cold? Towels a jacket what? Tonight's gonna be very cold.

sleeping bags or a blanket will work for a quick fix. You may want to concider putting it in a tub of water and adding an aquarium heater to it. Make sure to get a heater with a thermostat on it...they're about $20 and work wonders. I suggest getting the AG process down though before you start playing with water chemistry... it's just a lot to think about on your first AG brew.

Not my first all grain. I've done dozens, but is my first lager. I just got a chest freezer and I have a JC digital thermostat being delivered tomorrow. I just needed a quick fix. Thanks..

If you have a spare trash can, fill it with water and float the fermenter in that. The thermal mass of the water will take time to cool off and damps the air temperature fluctuations. Then, as mentioned previously, beg, borrow or steal and old aquarium heater. Put that in the trash can full of water and you're golden.

Haha! Sorry about that last post...probably seemed a little out of nowhere eh?

I was replying to another post and thought I was editing it and not this one. The other one was about water.
