I'm having a hard time believing that 3500 gallons did all that damage... 35000 I could maybe believe...

I have a 1000 Gallon holding tank for my well water.. 6' high and 6' diameter... No way 3 and a half of those could demolish a neighborhood and kill nine people... unless the two houses were on top of the tank and the nine people were in them...

If that's true, then it's some sort of freak set of circumstances that all worked together...

I love knowing that the pilgrims and our founding fathers were brewers and beer drinkers... Even the Puritans drank a lot of beer.. There's a lot of Christians in this country that need to learn about their roots... Jesus Himself was a wine drinker.. And I'm convinced He drank a substantial amount (not saying he was a drunk)...

Prohibition is still royally screwing up this societies attitude towards this wonderful gift from God called alcohol...

Also, alcohol didn't make the water safe to drink. It was the boiling of the water that made it safe to drink but they didn't know that at the time.

I'm sure that the alcohol helped in the whole bacteria problem though...

The colonists also used beer as 'food' to a large degree.. they drank it all day long for energy while working...

it was barrels, and 1 barrel =31 gallons. so.... 108,500 gallons. I could see that ruining someones day. On the other hand, it also give me images of boating down it in a raft with a paddle in one had, beer mug in the other.

I had heard of the great beer flood before on a beer special on the History channel. They also stated that a lot of people came out of their houses with bottles in hand to try to catch some of the beer.

That makes more sense...

The Oatmeal is amazing, one of his funniest is his comic about printers.
