Seriously, he just. has to look at a list. And how many *factual* questions can be asked about a style other than geography? SRM, IBUs, ABV, etc? If you're going to pick a style, you better be prepared to answer such fundamental questions (e.g. whether or not it's an ale),and if you don't know those off-hand, you'd have to look at the guidelines anyways. Since there are no BJCP guidelines, this "research" (and by that I mean "looking at a slightly different list" could possibly even help him answer other people's questions more accurately...

If he doesn't want to look it up, that's fine with me, but the style category is already ridiculous enough with its narrow range of useful questions and inherently subjective definitions to begin with; nobody needs you to be the judge of whether or not a question is worth answering.
