I've been doing 2.5 gal BIAB batches for a little over a year now and I've dialed my process in pretty consistently. LHBS double crushes my grains, mash for an hour (don't lose more than 1 degree during the hour), no mash out, squeeze the bag, no sparge, boil 60 minutes. Cool, aerate, pitch.
But I've noticed that my recipes where Maris Otter is the base malt I get great efficiency. Always a few points on either side of 75%. But when American 2-row is my base malt I'm luck to hit 70%. Last two batches were 66% and 65%. Am I missing something here? Shouldn't the base malt not effect your efficiency that much?
