Hello,

Been looking at getting one of these systems. The 2.5 gal mini draft system with a 5lb co2 tank set up (not the co2 cartridges). But I had some questions I can't seem to get any answers to. I was hoping someone here could help me.

1. Can you use these kegs to force carb just like people do with the 5gal kegs? (This is one of the main reasons I am interested in kegging)

2. If you can, do you have to use lower psi to do so? Like 15-20psi? D/t to the smaller keg size.

3. Anyone out there have a system like this? Does it fit all set up in a mini fridge?

Thanks!

1. I would assume you can force carb the kegs just like you can do with any other keg. I wouldn't see the point of only being able to prime carbonate/condition beer inside a keg.

2. I usually force carb my beer at 20-30 psi and leave it for a few days. Then purge and set it to serving pressure. I would assume you could do the same with what you're looking at.

3. no idea. If I were you I'd just get a 5 gallon corny keg setup. You can still put 2.5 gallons of beer in a 5 gallon keg and it leaves you room to grow. Once you get used to having kegs of homebrew you'll go through 2.5 gallons quickly and you'll want to move up to 5 gallons at some point. My .02 is Save yourself some money and just buy the 5 gallon setup.

My first kegerator held two 2-1/2 gallon kegs. That was back in 2007. That small fridge has been repurposed to chill fermenters. I still use the 2-1/2 gallon kegs along with 5 gallon kegs in my larger system. You use them exactly like a 5 gallon keg, just less volume.

I bought some 3 gallon pin locks on Black Friday from AIH. Three of the four are sitting at 30 psi now. Go for it! I bought them because I can split a five gallon batch with my brew partner. Plus it's a lot easier to throw a little bit in to force carb for a party on short notice and your not sharpening all five gallons of your hard work! Sorry I'm partial to keeping my beer for me. Ha!
