12 point(Star) gas post on ball lock keg

Is there any need to keep the 12 point gas post ? Bought a replacement for it, but not able to find one that is a match.

Nope. But why replace? I've got 10 kegs and about half of them have those posts.

Had one that appears to be the source of a leak.

It's just a piece of very thick and strong metal that bolts onto the post.
unless it is somehow misshapen the culprit is most likely the rings.
I have had a few old kegs where I needed two rings to get it to seal correctly because the dip tube flaring was misshapen.

you can also replace the poppet and the ring on that.
