Hi there,

I currently work for a brewery where I have my 100L kit set up. However, I’m leaving that job this September and I’m looking to rehouse my kit at home in my cellar.

I’m UK based, so apologies if you’re from elsewhere but hopefully you can still help me out...

I’ve become aware that the 3kW kettle elements in the HLT and Boiler shouldn’t really be running on a 16A circuit with a 3 pin plug. Even on a 32A (which I believe the kit at brewery is running on), the three pin plug gets very hot.

Having spoken with my electrician, he has suggested that I get a dedicated consumer unit installed to handle the load using commando sockets.

Although I’m not opposed to this, I have the following questions:

1) If I’m wanting to do any level of temperature control (ie: HERMS or even just ensuring my hot liquor is at the right temperature first thing on a timer, or better yet Inkbird/STC1000), I presume I’m entering the realms of a control box? Is there a way to achieve this without a dedicated control panel?

2) I’m wanting something I can plug in and out as far as my kettles are concerned as it would make cleaning them much easier. (hence my above question).

Has anyone else been there/done that? If so, what did you do?

Thanks,
Nick
