I decided to make my hopper out of 3/8 lexan. Thought it might be cool to see the milling in action.

Ok. Just finished the hopper. 3/8 lexan. I can't wait to start the drivetrain!

Looking good, have you decided what you are going to power it with? Can't wait to see it in action

I have a 3/4hp ac motor. I just need to get a 6, 8, 2, 2 pullys and do a double reduction to put me at exactly 143 rpms. Or 15 ft per second. Ideal crush speed from what I understand.

Sweet, have is mentioned that I can't wait to see the finished product, dude this really a sweet DIY. Really wish I had access to the tools and experience you obviously have, you know you are going to have to give it a cool name like the Mighty Crush O'Matic, paint teeth on the hopper.

15 feet per sec is ideal? Where did you get that from?
Assuming your rollers are 2" diameter (1" radius):
143 rpm = 143 / 60 rps = 143*2*3.14*1 / 60 ips = 15 ips (inch per second).

[EDIT] Although it may be sacrilegious to buy anything, there are 10:1 gear reduction boxes out there.

Your right. Inches per second. I did a google search and found what sounded reputable for speed. I figured good enuff and went with it. Right now I am on the lookout for free pullys so may take a while. I will deff post a vid when I am done.

Wow I say if you didn't order any parts it's home made. Nothing ever says for it to be homemade you can't go use the equipment available. Those people are just jealous me you know if they went to a machine shop and did it themselves they would also post as homemade as well I would. That is very awesome my dad has a sign shop and we use a lot of lexan great idea. When are you going to start selling these? Lol
Way cool man nice work

Home Made- If one constructs an item by ones self regardless of where one sourced the parts from then that item shall be deemed Home Made. This is taken from my personal Corey S. Meyers, AKA Herc1354, dictionary....hahaha

100 percent agreed. Original idea, plans, and completed the production by oneself. I think its awesome. Wish I had access to more tools.

One can never have enough tools, what I'm lacking is the machining expertise.

Very nice. I built one earlier this year too. I think the hopper is more of a challenge than the mill itself. I still haven't made a permanent one just keep modifying a crappy wooden one till I get it right. Plan on using aluminum for it when I get the design worked out the way I want it. It does mill good though. My efficency has defiantly gone up.

Jig, that is sweet! Nice job! Maby I will polish mine as well. Good luck with the hopper. Mine was suppost to lean out on all four sides but I messed up on the angles and 3/8 lexan is way too expensive to start over.
