So I'm new to brewing and I just started the fermentation process on my first batch of Orange Clove Mead. My recipe didn't say to heat up the water to dissolve the honey. It just said mix and pitch yeast.
My Question is out of 16lbs of honey I think about 2lbs are undissolved at the bottom with the spices (thick cloudy brownish white substance). Would stirring it at this point kill the yeast? Or would it be better to just heat it up and pitch more yeast? thanks for any advice!

I've only made mead a couple of times, but I think nearly ALL of the honey sat right on the bottom. No problem, the yeast found it. So, I say leave it alone. True mazers will come in here and help you though, follow their advice. I did not heat up anything.

BTW, how long ago did you pitch the yeast?

Ok, thanks for your help! I pitched it three days ago. It seems to be fermenting fine so far though, lots of bubbles/ foam. I've been realizing that I was so excited to get started that I didn't do near as much homework as I should have.

If you are early in the ferment, stirring the must is encouraged. If not, it will dissolve on its own in a few days.

You can read my mead making article in my signature if you want to demystify things.

Cheers!
