    DIY Malting Gone Wrong

Two comments: I think you are soaking them a little long. I would go for a two hour soak. I don't think I would put the grains in the cloths dryer.

    Question about Vending Machines

I think that is wishful thinking today. I grew up during the late 50's the early 60's. If I got into a fight, the worst that would happen was I would come home beaten up. Today, 11 and 12 year olds become involved in gun fights on the street. The age of innocence is over.

    Question about Vending Machines

I don't know if they would be able to take a beer bottle. I am guessing that they can't to prevent someone from trying. How would you stop Minors from buying beer from a machine? I know they would be a nice conversation piece for a basement bar but I have no idea if the will take a beer bottle.

    Water Pressure Transducer

The money should not be too much of a stumbling block. My transducer solution would be about $10 to $12. Your challenge would be to get something working for less than that.

    Water Pressure Transducer

If you think thats the case lets see you build one that is stable and costs next to nothing. You have made many claims in this thread. Lets see some results. IMHO the least expensive and most accurate way is with a $5.00 Freescale pressure sensor, a 9 volt battery, two $0.15, 1/4 watt resistors...

    Water Pressure Transducer

That part will not be likely to work as the noise of that part is too high. It is a general purpose op amp. The AD624 from Analog Devices would be a wiser choice.

    Water Pressure Transducer

Gravity does indeed change with altitude but the difference is very, very small. The gravitational force above the Earth's surface is proportional to 1/R2, where R is your distance from the center of the Earth. The radius of the Earth at the equator is 6,378 kilometers, so let's say you were on...

    Water Pressure Transducer

The problem with the float and potentiometer is that the system is very prone to water surface disturbances. Any slight disruption in the water's surface will cause the reading to fluctuate because the float will move. A slight movement of the float can cause large errors. Measuring the pressure...

    Nate's motorized grain mill

The barley crusher is only designed for direct coupling. It can not take the side force of using a pully or sprocket. You will sure wear out the bearings prematurely.

    Paper Shredder Mill

Don't use a vegetable oil to lubricate it if you try it. The oil will go rancid and your grain will end up stinking to high heaven.

    Hop Spider - cheap

Nothing PVC in my boil. I use the Lil' Sparky paint strainer, hop spider type thingy except I use a Polyester 100 micron water filter bag which is rated to 280*F and add 10% more hops to compensate for loss of hop flavor and aroma. I have had only positive effects from anything leaching from the...

    Turkey Fryer Pump

Chitcan the oil pump. Even a minute amount of oil will ruin your batch of beer. Have a look at this pump: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002HFTK2/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20. There are many other pumps out there at less than $20, and that is less than the ingredients cost to replace an oil ruined...
