    Buying a used CFC

For what it is worth, I just bought some copper tubing and wrapped it around a cornie keg. Probably took ten minutes max then just used some hose clamps. Can't remember what the copper cost as it was a few years ago but it couldn't have been too much. Just my 2c.

question about doing 10 gallon batches with 5 gal equip.

I do ten gal batches. My HLT is only 26lts (6.5gals?) and MLT is 40ltrs (10gal) and my BK is 70lts (18gal?). I just sparge twice. Mash and first sparge are with 26lts then second sparge is about 18 to20lts. This works great for me and I get a bit of increased efficiency from the se sparge (...

Low Efficiency - Troubleshooting w/ No Luck

Post boil reading will be higher because of boil off. It will concentrate your wort. Try taking a reading then and see if that matches your predicted OG.

Wort Shelf Life & Recipe Creation

A bit OT, but I was kind of wondering this myself. I no chill and put the boiling wort into 20lt plastic cubes. I normally leave it for a day or two to cool down but was wondering if I could leave it for a week or more. I was thinking this because then I could brew when I have time and then...

    Making the Switch To Metric!

Has anyone else noticed that everyone is using a decimal point in their imperial measurements.

    first partial. only 1 mistake

Love that! "so I used my brewing know how and did nothing" Classic, but it is amazing how often this is the best measure to take!

    New to all grain recipe

Hey, I'm in aus. I think he was talking about the yeast. US05. I can get it easily here. About the hops, I'm not sure if that is enough hops during the boil. Also, are you doing 14 lts as the total volume or are you going to top up to 19 or 23lts ? Just trying to get what you're trying to...

Need suggestions for first AG Brew!

When I started all grain I tried to keep it simple. At first I wanted to make sure I had my mash temps down. Then when I had that I wanted to be able to differentiate between different malts and hops and see what sort of difference they made to the taste of the beer. To do this I did mostly...

    First 10 Gallon batch

Ha ha, yeah you did say! No worries anyway. I just set up my new stand and was about to start and our power went out. Means I can't use my march pump and I'm not too keen on trying to move 50+ litres around. Oh well hopefully it will come back on soon anyway. Got some kegs to clean in the mean...

    First 10 Gallon batch

There are 2.2 pounds per kilo and a litre is pretty much a quart. So 10kg is 22 pounds. So by 1.25 quarts per pound you need 27.5 quarts to mash 22 pounds. So I think 26lt is actually going to be a thick mash. Gab.

    First 10 Gallon batch

Hi all, I'll be doing my first double batch tomorrow as I just got my four ring 75,000 BTU burner. I have a 70lt BK and only a 26lt HLT and my mash cooler tun is apx 40lt. My question is this, can I mash with 10 kg of base ( not sure on specialties yet but won't be heaps) with 26 lt of...

    My first all-grain

It's probably cloudy because of the wheat. So it won't clear fully. Gab.

Anyone hear of using a fudge kettle for brewing?

I have a 26lt pot and can do full boils. Have to watch it though!! So 20 lt might be a bit small.

    Quickest brew day

Bmbigda, lol yeah I do the same, I get the first runnings in the boil pot and start heating while I sparge. Doesn't make for a good pre boil SG but I don't really care. As for doing **** while waiting, I normally bottle/keg while the mash is going on to free up a fermentor. Then sanitize the...

    Quickest brew day

Bmbigda, that's what I'm trying to do, brew when getting home from work. but I use hot tap water to speed things up at the beginning. But thanks for the tip to get the burner set and ready to go will def do.

    Quickest brew day

Yeah but I mean a full all grain batch with one hour mash and one hour boil. I can make a kit and kilo in 15 mins, but that's not the point.

    Quickest brew day

Ok, so who has the quickest brew day under their belts. I've done four ag batches now I I can't get it under four hours. From go to woe including cooling and then pitching but not final clean up ( washing boil pot, IC and thermometers etc) I can't get it below four hours. Obviously the mash and...

Ok, so i was abit drunk

Well, tonight I did my first all grain. It all started well, 4 kg pale, 1 kg crystal and 500g Carapils. I mashed all those at 67c for an hour in my converted cooler mash tun. Then sparged with 13lt of 83c water into my brew pot. Got the pot up to the boil then started my hop additions. 10 g of...
