Star San. To rinse or not to rinse. What's your practice.

Overdue post, I had forgotten about this thread. I've never had an issue with "slime". Note that I'm using this with kegs that I store under pressure with CO2. For the glass carboys, they are also semi-sealed with saran wrap or a stopper (w/o a hole). Even if there were slime, I'm not sure...

Star San. To rinse or not to rinse. What's your practice.

After I clean carboys and kegs, I use another keg with Star San (pressurized a bit with co2) and pump some Star San into the newly cleaned container (carboy or keg). For carboys, I shake it up and seal the carboy with a carboy bung/stopper w/o hole, or simply with saran wrap plus a rubber band...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Six weeks since my last brew, mostly because my pipeline was full (13 batches ytd prior to today). Today I brewed an Ithaca Flower Power clone. http://ithacabeer.com/flower-power/

    So who's brewing this weekend?

It's summer...go pale ale or a Wit. How about a Citrus Wheat or something like Squeeze my Lemon Blonde? For the Citrus Wheat, you can use the original blue moon recipe here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/blue-moon-clone-65328/#post671567 and just add1/2 ounce Citra @ 5 minutes and 1/2...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed what I thought was my 50th batch today. To celebrate my beer drinking roots, I made a batch of ..... Rolling Rock. To do so, I had to modify my process to brew with the lid on (to keep that awesome DMS in the pot). Currently in my basement already starting to go using Cry Havoc...

National Homebrewer's Conference - HomeBrewTalk Giveaway - Open to All!

Survey completed. Stacking wood today (wet day but not raining) rather than in the woods felling trees, cutting or splitting. Have strike water for a brew just about ready but may wait until tonight to brew.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Did a Yooper's Pale Ale today. That makes 12 batches since 3/15, under three months. The pace has now slowed down as I'm using a fermentation chamber which limits me to one primary at a time. (I was able to do lot's of primaries before when the temperatures were lower and I could just have...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

No brewing today, but instead it's transfer to keg day. Four brews: Schwartzbeir, a Summit MO SMaSH (looked awesome in the carboy, also doing a Summit hop dry hop on this), Sierra Nevada Celebration clone (dry hop with cascade and celebration), and Victory Hop Devil clone (dry hop with...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

According to Beersmith, 29 IBU, color 4.7, est abv 4.1% If you want a bit more color and flavor, you could take a bit of the 2-row, say 1/2 pound and roast in the oven (a thin layer) @ 350 degrees for 1/2 hour. If it were me, I'd also up the IBU a bit. For example, Yooper's Pale Ale uses all...

have YOU brewed an amazing beer?

Everybody's different in terms of what they want out of brewing. Me, I brewed a kit eons ago and then restarted about four years ago. I've done lots of batches that when I drank it said "Damm, this is good!", and have had others that were definitely mediocre. I also tend to brew at least 50%...

My beer is reviewed by a pro - and it's a disaster

Subscribed, sort of like watching an accident on the other side of the road and wondering "what happened"? Actually, the recipe looks interesting. Besides, what's wrong with soapy, red sourish ales? :)

    lets see your full Fermenters

I got to do this one some of my carboys...much better than taking 4x6 index cards and taping them to the carboy. I've got 6 carboys going at the same time, it gets confusing after a while as to what has what. :mug:

So, is that chalkboard paint on the carboy DYI? Awesome idea! Any tips or pointers in doing those?

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed a mini-batch (2.9 gallon) of a Columbus IPA recipe that I'm testing. I've gotten lazy recently and have been doing a series of biab w/o sparge brews. By limiting the batch size, I'm able to do biab on the kitchen stove (no propane required). For this batch, 2.9 gallons with a grain...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you've made some many batches that you aren't sure which is which (in unmarked bottles) :(

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed a mini-batch (2 gallons) SMASH today. Maris Otter + Summit, S-05 as yeast. I'm hoping to crank out a bunch of small SMASH or other single hop batches over the next couple of months along with some normal brews. After not having brewed for six months, I've now done 10 batches since...

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

In NY, you would have been limited to a 7 ounce can. In California, you use to be able to open carry the can, but now can only carry the can in a bag and go through a lengthy process to get a permit to carry the can (in the bag). In Vermont, you can even have a fully automatic can. In Texas...
