The numbers don't add up again...WHY?!?

I thought that in the equipment profile the loss to trub/ chiller was the bottom of the brew kettle. Where do i account for that .5 gallon in my equipment profile? Maybe that is my issue.

The numbers don't add up again...WHY?!?

Here is my equipment profile. Anyone see any red flags in there? I do really want to know how to properly measure trub loss though.

The numbers don't add up again...WHY?!?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the information in this thread. But I brewed yesterday and had the same result. Using your format from pg 1 klnosaj: ------------------estimated -------measured pre-boil SG---------1.056------------1.055 pre-boil H2O vol----7.0 gal-----------7.0...

The numbers don't add up again...WHY?!?

i'm reading this thread with great interest. I have a simiar but opposite problem. My OG is always higher than Beersmith says it should be. yet everything else has always lined up: preboil gravity, preboil volume and post boil volume (after trub loss). I have posted about it on the forum and...

Cool Hop chart/timeline for %oil comparison

I've seen this before but never studied it. Makes me want to use Nugget, which I've never done before.

confusion about hops at flame out

I've been using a plate chiller recently, which is an upgrade from an immersion chiller. The immersion chiller would take aobut 20 mins so my flame out hops could steep. Now, with the plate chiller i can run the wort through the chiller immediately. My question is, how long should i let my...

    Canadian Brew Supplies

I don't live in Alberta so I don't know how accurate this is but I do know that they have a central database for all their liquor stores. Here is the listing for US beer...

    Real Ales (Cask Conditioned)

How long does it take to carb a keg w/ sugar? A week doesn't seem like long enough.

    dry hopping in keg??

The most pellet hops I've used at one time is 1 oz when I mixed it with 1 oz whole hops. I would think it'd be fine up to two oz.

    dry hopping in keg??

Obviously I'm with calypro on this one. I tried hop bags and paint strainer bags but really prefer and have found a difference with loose hops. Same reason I ditches the hop bag in the brew kettle for a screen. I dry hop with whole hops. To date I have found no hops in my poppits, and I've...

    dry hopping in keg??

I have these beauties in all my kegs. I try to dry hop with whole hops but have used small amounts of pellets too. These things are your answer. I've never had my beer turn 'grassy' from dry hopping in a keg, but a keg doesn't last more than 3 weeks in my house anyway.

Grain to glass in 2 weeks suggestions

Just reporting back in after all is said and done. The party went great! In the end I made a dry stout and a blonde ale. Both were around the 4.5ABV mark, probably just a bit under. I added 2 c of cold brewed coffee to the stout at kegging. The results were mixed. The stout was really...

I like the idea of the wit but I don't have any Belgian wheat on hand and can't get it before brew day (tomorrow!). I'd like to really use that yeast in a proper wit recipe instead of just using regular wheat.

Lots of great stuff in here. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm leaning towards a blonde using the s-05. It will be a good middle of the road beer for the macro drinkers to try. However I'm looking for thoughts on brewing Yuri Rage's Stout. It'll use the s-04, which i've never actually...

Low abv is the key. Now i know why I thought of the Centennial Blonde: Hefe is another good idea, although I equate those with summertime.

So the wife (mostly) and I (less so) decided we're having a holiday open house/ party in 2 weeks. Timing couldn't be worse w/r/t my supply right now. I just kicked one keg and the other seems to have only 1/4 left. So now this weekend I'd like to brew two batches. Both need to be...
