    First keg

Wow I love kegging. I've brewed 32 batches in the last 12-13 months and bottled all of them. I have about 25 gallons/10 cases of beer around my house, and a lot more empty bottles around for future batches. I just kegged this beer on Sunday and wanted to try it today, it is at room temp in...

    First keg

I got a used Corny and serving kit with CO2 bottle and hoses. I've had the keg carbonating a few days and I want to try it. What is maintenance for the serving line? Should I wash it? Sanitize it? Can I take it off once I've put it on? If I do, should I sanitize it before I attach it again?

    Cleaning with a garden hose

I do dishes before a brew day starts sometimes... ... but I never start a brew by doing dishes. I start a brew day by filtering my water and getting ready to turn on the burner for mash water. Sounds like you need to take on some of the household duties and quit making your wife do all...

    Cleaning with a garden hose

And get your wife used to messes it the kitchen. I've got water and sometimes beer and wort splashed all over the floor on brew or bottling day. I've never been on a brewery tour that didn't have these things on the floor too, so I don't feel like a dork if I spill a little of something...

    Moldy bucket

Yeah none I can see anyway. I use it to soak bottles and pour wort through only... I figure that is ok... maybe I'll soak it in sanitizer for a day... Sent from my SPH-L520 using Home Brew mobile app

    Moldy bucket

I have three 6.5 gal buckets that used to be my main fermentors. Now I have carboys and use the buckets for other stuff besides fermenting. I left one dirty for a day or two, after using it to pour wort through a strainer on brew day. It got moldy. Would you use it after that to hold wort...

    Fermentation Vibration

I have a fermenting fridge. It sits on a wooden platform out on my back porch, next to the washing machine. When the washing machine is running, it vibrates the wooden platform a little, so the whole thing shakes a bit. When I look in the fridge at the carboys, the beer is shaking in rhythm...

    Oxyclean

Yeah I use it, probably won't ever buy another can of PBW. I usually keep a bucket around and drop my bottles in it after I pour. Scrub them when I have time or the bucket gets full.

    Broken Carboy

To be more accurate I should have said breaking my carboy was more easily avoidable than I thought before. I saw a very specific reason I broke it, and it wasn't a 'freak accident', I just wasn't paying attention to the things near me as I was cleaning. Now that I know what made it break, it...

    Broken Carboy

I got another glass carboy, haha. I needed another fermentor and got glass. I found out why I broke the first one, and it was avoidable, and I like glass, so I'm back. Hahaha.

    Keeping my beer warm...

I have a fermentation fridge with an STC-1000, it is on my bck porch. I live in Los Angeles, it gets hot, doesn't get cold, but I wondered if I'd need temp control in the winter to keep my beer warm at night... I am not sure yet, but I am thinking I may not need to get a heating element...

    Water pump for immersion chiller

You don't have to, it is just more efficient. The difference in temps between boiling and tap water are enough to cool boiling down quite a bit. If you use ice, it just melts the ice and you need to get more. Starting with cool water to get down to maybe 100, then using ice/cold water to get...

    Adding vodka: hydrometer reading

Yes the FG reading would be 'correct' in some repect, but not in a way that would give you the ABV of the solution. You could figure it out mathematically if you wanted to, as long as you measured the volumes and knew the ABV of the beer before adding, and of the vodka, precisely. Why would you...

Any carboy cleaning tips out there?

I put maybe a gallon of water in my carboys with a scoop (maybe a tablespoon?) of either PBW or oxy, and then shake it up. It gets enough off that a little brushing gets the rest with very little effort, really just wiping it off. One thing with them both; hot water works better. If you don't...

Any carboy cleaning tips out there?

Powdered Brewery Wash. Oxy clean is stuff been marketed as an all purpose cleaner on tv for a while, I got some from target in the laundry aisle, the 'free' version has no scents, and it works about as good as PBW for me. Much cheaper than PBW which is specific to the brew store or online...

    5 gallons... I need more...

Yeah I am thinking about that, could use my yeast quicker that way too... but I need more temp-controlled space for that... My freezer up/fridge down unit holds two 5-gal fermentors. Could maybe squeeze akn LBK in there...

    5 gallons... I need more...

Started with BrB back in January, now I'm doing 5-gal AG batches. It is more than double the volume of an LBK, but it isn't enough! So I'm starting to consider what I need to make bigger batches. One big limitation is my fermentation chamber, which right now is an ex-household fridge/freezer...

    Aluminum pot help

cool. I have aluminum and the lower part is dark like that, not much toward the top. But I've been using it, hoping, I guess you'd say, that it won't make my beer have metallic flavors.

    Aluminum pot help

Is the part that isn't darker completely non-oxidized?
