    Therminator versus Counterflow chillers

Post #5 shows what the inside looks like when sliced open, lots of places for particles to get trapped. Commercial heat exchangers have gaskets between the plates and can be taken apart and cleaned, which you can't do with this one. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/plate-chiller-139151/

    Digital Hydrometer

How about an automatic temperature correcting refractometer? It's what I and many others use. Only $30, well worth the price once you realize how fragile hydrometers are...

    Exactly.........

    Oxyfree pitting glass?

Are you sure it's pitting and not a deposit. Try cleaning it with something acidic like star san or bar keepers friend and see it it doesn't come off. As said above, there are no chemical reactions that would cause pitting in glass from a per carbonate cleaner.

    St. Patrick's of Texas

And then most definitely post it here. I had pretty fun read for the last 10 minutes or so.

    brewballs

Can't leave the hydrometer in the brew because fermentation will cover it in krausen and the CO2 created will stick to the bottom making it giving an inaccurate reading that is impossible to see. I've seen them, met the inventor at GABF. I don't want them, but I wouldn't say they look like...

Cheapest place to get keg socket set

I had a couple like that once. Had to use a blow torch to heat up the posts and they came off, figured it was dried up pepsi from years ago that made some sort of sugary super glue. It obviously destroyed the o-rings, but it needed to be done. Just hope that it doesn't have a plastic dip tube...

Temperature and my new chest freezer.

I left mine turned off for a week on accident and when I got home everything inside was still cool with an ambient temp of around 60. I have also left the lid open to come back and find that the freezer is at the correct temp and not running. They hold temperature extremely well, and lots of...

    Rubber Degrading on Keg

I have one that does that every time I wash it. I guess after a while those tops and bottoms just start to break down and get black stuff everywhere. Not sure what to do about it, but there isn't any worry that it will harm your beer, it' all on the outside, the stainless inside should be fine...

    transfer pump

If you are just using it for cold side those pumps will probably work fine, but if you are planning on using the pump on the hot side you will need something that works at high temps, and the March 809 is really the best option there for the price.

Got a keg, riddled with guilt...

Yup, that's where we get ours, we got a pallet of these yesterday. $2 bucks off each for getting more than 20 We also got some of those 2.95 gallon fresh kegs for our liquor store accounts. I brought one home last weekend and it was a neat little keg, stays fresh indefinitely.

Got a keg, riddled with guilt...

Go to your local craft brewery and ask them if they have any that aren't good any more. We have a few that are no good, and they're just collecting dust in the corner. If someone offered us a few bucks for them they're theirs. Buying in bulk does get you a small discount, but for the...

    Big Pot, Free Shipping!

That looks exactly like my kettle I got from a restaurant supply store. It's great, sturdier than you could ever need, transfers heat really well, and easy to modify. The aluminum, while strong, is relatively soft, so cutting it with a good drill and paddle bit or step bit is no problem, I...

Got a keg, riddled with guilt...

I guarantee that if someone were to walk into our brewery with a keg and say hey I have this keg of yours, you want it back. We would say hell yes, and probably offer the guy a beer, I can't imagine any brewery would say "screw off" if you were trying to return their property. We are having...

Please evaluate this mash tun on eBay

That's a good mash tun for a really bad price. It's not that tough to build your own out of a cooler and some parts from Lowe's for less than half of what that guy is charging. That is just an Igloo Ice Cube 60qt cooler with a ball valve attached.

Thermostat and in freezer thermometer has different readings.

Have you checked to make sure the thermometer is calibrated? If so, just make up for the difference on the thermostat.

    How thin is too thin?

Did it with no problem to mine that looks just like that, and I just used a paddle bit. It's pretty simple and the metals really soft, and I haven't noticed any structural problems. I have three holes in the pot I got with my turkey fryer kit, and it much thinner with no apparent loss to...

    Pump Recommendations

March 809. It's expensive, but it's the cheapest one that you would want touching your hot wort.

    What's this worth?

As far as that "kit" goes, the used tubing and bottling bucket are basically garbage, the kettle isn't big enough for all grain brewing, and who knows what sanitizer that is or where the recipes are from. If it were me, I wouldn't trust any of the plastic stuff either, so that means the...

MLT CPVC manifold with Bargain Fittings bulkhead???

If the pipe is pretty tight, you will be creating suction from the bottom, so they angle won't be an issue, and with grains in there it will be even less than 2 cups of loss. Looks good to me.
