Lots of bubbling, but almost no foam

I've been on a Dead Guy kick the last couple months, so I thought I'd try brewing a clone. This is only my second AG brew. Finished with about 4.8 gal and a OG of 1.059. I pitched the Wyeast Pacman yeast at about 10:00 last night. This morning at 8:00 I was seeing bubbling about every 1-2...

Dealing with 5 gal batch in 15 gal kettle

I am looking at modifying the FB. (Moved my thread to equipment forum) https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/modify-false-bottom-355317/ I would love feedback on this. Anyone see issues?

    Modify false bottom

I've already had some input on how to deal with a 5gal batch in a 15gal kettle, and this is where I am at: I am considering modifying the FB. The issue I have is too much water below the FB which results in a too thick of a mash. The logical solution is to get the FB go below the output and...

Dealing with 5 gal batch in 15 gal kettle

The Morebeer 15gal mash tun is actually what I bought. Since so many people encouraged getting a large pot for future flexibility, I assumed a 5 gal batch would be not problem. When I get home my plan is to look at how I might lower the FB below the outlet and use a dip tube.

Dealing with 5 gal batch in 15 gal kettle

I appreciate the reply. I think I will attempt to brew with a higher strike volume and see how it goes. If that doesn't work, the marbles are an interesting idea.

Dealing with 5 gal batch in 15 gal kettle

Yes, I am pulling double duty with my kettle. I fly sparge, drain into a bucket, clean the kettle and then pour the wort back in to do my boil. As for the sparge water, I used the calculator on brew365.com, which confirmed that I need about 4.5 gal of sparge water. I could simply add more...

Dealing with 5 gal batch in 15 gal kettle

I've done a few AG batches, but I decided it was time to step up my cheap 7.5gal kettle (had a cheap thermometer and a bad ball valve). After reading tons on the forum and hearing over and over that I should just get a 15gal kettle now, I went for it. I've found a few people posting the...

    Pressure gauge issues

The leak is around the screw, yes. However, you suggestion worked. I shut off the main valve and then slowly unscrewed until the pressure dropped to 10psi. After about 30 seconds there was no more gas leaking. I turned on the main valve and the pressure held constant. I then was able to...

    Pressure gauge issues

Hello, This my first attempt at kegging my homebrew. I found some used equipment from craigslist and have everything setup. My issue is with getting the pressure to drop to the correct level. I can screw the adjustment counterclockwise and the reading on the gauge drops, but as soon as it...
