    Anyone use WLP051?

This is my second time to use WLP051 and the second time the airlock showed activity for only 1 day. I had saved some from my first batch and decided to reuse. I washed the yeast and am not sure what I should look for, as you can see in the attached pic, there is a bright / light color on the...

    Question on infection

Brewed a honey blond last week. I used washed yeast from my last batch of brew as they both called for wlp051. It seemed to ferment way to fast, like less than 2 days, so I opened the bucket and pitched more, only 1 more night. I decided to move the first batch to keg and the honey blonde to...

    Question on recipe

Am doing a Delirium recipe. It is a pretty big brew. The recipe says to secondary after 7 days. That seems a little soon as there is still plenty of activity, bubbling less than 15 seconds. I am using a fermenting bucket, 1st time with a bucket, my old kit had 2 5 gallon carboys and my brews...

    34 days and still bubbling.

Started a brew on new years eve. The brew started to bubble new years day. There was some blow off, but my major question is on a 5 gallon batch, bubbling for 34 days and still bubbling every 40-50 seconds. Is that. Normal? I did the recipe, should have been 1.071 but added about 3/4 more left...

    Yeast from a bottle condition

I attempted to do a yeast starter from a bottle I had. It was commercial beer. I started trying to build the colony by using some left over wort from a brew. It took 4-5 days to get any activity and started to see a couple of bubbles on top. I put it on a stir plate and cracked open the lid. I...

    2nd all grain

Well...I brewed my 2nd all grain New Years, last brew of 2011. I think it is going to be high abv. I forgot to take an OG, but after 10 days it is still bubbling every 6 seconds. I was going to move to secondary, to let it clarify for a couple of weeks. I was scheduling this weekend, but think I...

    Nooby question...

Have a friend that has started brewing. He bought a kit it is a dark ale. Right now it is at 3.96 abv. He wants to bring it up to let's say 5-6 abv. He is telling me the OG was 1.050 , 5 days later 1.020. I know he should take another reading, but think the kit only called for 4 abv. Can it be...

    NOOBY - Question on Yeast

I have a question on yeast. I have been doing Belgian style on my first 2 brews. 1st one was a partial mash, the last one a all grain. I have been using WLP500 yeast. I want to try a westy 12 all grain. I wAs thinking, since it seems to be a big calling for 19.69 lb grain for a 5 gallon batch...

NOOBY - Forgot the SG step

Hello...this is my 2nd brew. I did an all grain and had some minor problems with my mash tun. My question is, I pitched my yeast starter cake last night. The brew has started fermenting. It can not be more than 9 hours as I pitched about 9 hours ago and fermenting is slow. Can I take the SG now...

NOOBY - don' think I did a good job.

Attempted to mix ingredients of 2 recipes. I did it as a partial mash, believe that is the term. Steeped Belgian aromatic, cara-Munich, and chocolate. The problem occurred when I added the pilsner LME extract. During the boil, I saw some black flakes floating around. When I finished, I noticed...
