Cold crash then lager? Or lager then cold crash?

Bear in mind, either method will require you to leave the keg motionless to the very last glassful. You can move it with the utmost care, but to transfer it somewhere will cloud up your beer.

    Words and phrases I hate

I second the "Having said that,..." "With that said,..." etc. Drives me bugs. Also: prolly ect. closure epiphany surreal

    One final shout before re-pitching

Ah the always disappointing fermentus interruptus. Do you feel you aerated well enough? What was your method?

What is the most useful Brewing item you own?

My immersion wort chiller with the motorized paint stirrer. No laborious stirring, and that free time is definitely put to good use at that point in the brew session.

    Removing inventory in Beersmith

Ahhh... change the amount to zero! Man, I spent way too much time on this. A "delete" option, common everywhere else, would be the ticket. Oh well, thanks man!

    Removing inventory in Beersmith

So say I sold some of my grain to a buddy, and I simply want to delete that grain from my inventory. The "delete" button is grayed out. How do I delete it?

    new at kegging homebrew

Keg it when it becomes clear. Use gelatin if you need to. And I don't prime kegs with sugar because I don't want sediment in the bottom. All CO2. Kegging is the bomb.

Simply read the "I love apfelvin" (sp) thread and you'll have it nailed!

    False Bottom Distortion

I cut out a plastic pail top to fit my false bottom and secured it with little computer screws. It disassembles easily for cleaning and works perfectly. No way for grains to get under the false bottom and clog the outlet.

    Refrctometer Calibration Question

My cheap refracto has never gone out of whack, as in, I've never needed to adjust it. Expect the same.

Trying to switch over from extract to all grain, could I get a hand?

Here you go. And congrats! I always say, it's hard to make bad beer when you go all grain!

How can a thermometer read below freezing in water?

It reads low at both ends, less so near boiling. I would just add 1 to whatever it reads (for mash and HLT temperatures) and carry on.

    Drinking after 3rd shift

Any of you guys ever work the night shift and find yourself enjoying your beer after work? I really love tossing back a few to unwind, even though it's 7am. Immense enjoyment and a great relaxer before hitting the hay. I'm on number two at the moment. Bliss!

    Sanke Kegs for home brew?!

If you cut a roughly 9 inch hole in the top of a Sanke, it makes a killer boil kettle or fermenter. Perfect if you want to get into 10 gallon batches.

Best single addition to your brew day procedure

Chilling the wort in my boil kettle, then simply pitching the yeast, aerating, sealing, and letting the fermentation rip, all within the boil kettle.

How do you seal a Beer Keg for fermenting after cutting top off

It's a quarter inch thick. As far as I know, Lowe's and HD still carry the stuff. When I make my next lids, I'm going with polycarbonate. Never tried it but it sounds like good material. http://freckleface.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/polycarbonatesheetonequarterinchthick.html A buddy at...

How do you seal a Beer Keg for fermenting after cutting top off

Cut a 9 1/4 inch hole in the keg and put one of these sealed lids on it. Stuff from Lowe's except for the gasket. MSC Supply for that, or make it yourself.
