    Best Economical Element and Controller

I received my Herms II controller back from Tom on Thursday. I sent it back to him because the temp probe was off. He replaced the PID but that wasn't it, he found a broken wire at the probe female port in the box. He sent it back fixed with a new temperature probe and now I don't need it...

    Best Economical Element and Controller

I talked to Tom last week and he is swamped with orders so I think you'll get it soon. I've got the original Herms II that's shown on his web page. He built it for me and my 30 gal system. I've been using it for over a year and it works well.

    Element On detection

Thanks Doug! I see your point, I guess a solid moisture resistant controller is what I need. I can take it into the house when I'm done brewing.

    Element On detection

What did you use as a guide to build your own? I'd like to try building a 240v herms controller that's waterproof so I can leave in on the wall in my brew area which is open on 2 sides.

    Options for a bluetooth controller?

Thanks Bobby! I sent him an email so I'll see if he gets back to me. Ebrew Supply has a controller that uses a network you set up with your phone or tablet but it's very pricey. All those fittings in my system came from you and I appreciate that you have everything and ship it quickly!

    Options for a bluetooth controller?

I've got a 30 gal spike 3v herms system and want to upgrade from a 30 amp PID controller to one that I can program starting times and steps and run from my phone/tablet. Is there any commercial box out there?

    Fly Sparging question

Thanks for all the comments and help. This weekend I did two 12 gallon batches using the batch sparge method and achieved 84% mash efficiency. I fell that this is going to be method from now on. I added 2 gallons after a 60 minute mash and kept the rims tube recirculating with out heat for 10...

Yes I do, that's why I'm contemplating batch sparging. Ken

    Fly Sparging question

I've been doing 12 gallon batches for 7 years using fly sparging from 10 gallon HTL at 180 degrees pumped into mashtun while slowly draining wort into kettle. My question is this, how does the sparge water ever get the grain bed to 168? As I slowly sparge it sets on top of 154 degree water and...

    SS Brewbucket problems

I'll try using a sponge on it with clean water next time. Also, my Star San was about 4 years old and think maybe it wasn't sterilizing anymore. Got a fresh batch and am using that today in a batch Amarillo red rye ale. Ken

    SS Brewbucket problems

Most of my IPAs, APAs and blondes I leave in fermenter 12 to 14 days, never longer than that. Ken

    SS Brewbucket problems

Thanks but we always rinse with water very well before we Starsan. My taste buds are different from other people because of head/neck radiation so I guess the off taste is more like my wife and friend say, sour and metallic. Thanks, Ken

    SS Brewbucket problems

I have a problem with several of my beer batches. I do all grain and have been since 2009 with a 20 gal Spike brew pot, 15 gal cooler mashtun and a 10 gal igloo cooler for HLT and it's always worked great and produced award winning beers. I changed from plastic brew buckets and carboys about 3...
