Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I have a question... I friend of mine and I bought ingredients for this recipe. Because the listing for the Extra Light Dry Extract on the website that we bought it from said it was in 3.3 lb packages we bought 3 to split it. In actuality they are 3 lb packages. So we have 9 lb to split. The...

    1st Brew Success!

I brewed an English Brown Ale kit from Brewers Best. I did the 3 weeks primary, 2 weeks bottle and minimum 2 days in the fridge. I actually drank two after 1 week in the bottle and I thought it was good. But anyway, I have probably drank about a 8 of them and brought a 6 pack to work today to...

    Beginning First Batch 10/14/11

This is coming from someone that has 2 batches under his belt... I have not even tried one from my first batch yet. Mine went pretty smooth. Follow the instructions. Get the wort cool. The ice bath has actually worked well for me. Cooled in 20 mins or less. I only say this because I have...

Brewed my 2nd batch today.. "Rocky Pale Ale" from Midwest Supplies

The 1.051 was a corrected gravity reading. The wort was about 70 deg when I took the measurement. I am not too worried about it now that I know what it was supposed to be. The first reading was 1.060 for where I thought my water level should be based on what I left in the brew kettle to avoid...

Thanks, I knew that, just messed it up. I edited it. I'm pretty excited to see how it ends up! I hope the 1.051 is good. I followed the directions and that's where it's at.

Brewed my 2nd batch today.. "Rocky Pale Ale" from Midwest Supplies

I brewed the "Rocky Pale Ale" from Midwest Supplies today. http://www.midwestsupplies.com/rocky-pale-ale-w-london-esb-ale-1968-wyeast-activator.html The directions did not give me what the OG and FG should be. Anyone have any idea what they should be? I ended up with a OG of 1.051. Is this...

Took my 1st gravity test today post fermentation.

Thank you everyone! @imrook - I didn't really think about why I was sanitizing the hydrometer and tube. HaHa. I just did because I'm a noob and I'm a little worried about ruining my beer so I sanitize everything I use beer related. But I never really thought about the beer not going back in...

Took my 1st gravity test today post fermentation.

I brewed my first batch ever, English Brown Ale from Brewers Best on September 18th. I have been thinking about bottling this weekend so I wanted to get a gravity test. My OG was 1.045 and today’s test was 1.012. It is finishing out pretty nicely I think. I also took my first taste and it...

    Inconsistent from bottle to bottle

In light of that info, would it be more consistent just to add the appropriate amount of priming sugar to the bottle? I'm curious because I will be bottling my first batch in a week or two.

Would you buy used equipment if it was in good condition?

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure there were no likely bad experiences to come with buying used. What I can't figure out is why anyone would sell beer brewing equipment?!!!!

Would you buy used equipment if it was in good condition?

I am going to be just starting out. I have an opportunity to buy some used equipment that is supposed to be in really good shape. No scratches in the plastic parts and everything else seems to be clean and well taken care of. It will be significantly less than new stuff. It is basically a...
