    Diagnose my hops disease

The leafs turn brown gradually until they die. All the while there is plenty of new growth coming in, even on the same bine, but the older bines with cones are browning severely. It seems like a deficiency.

    wine bladders

2nd link doesn't work. I called my lhbs and they said they can get plastic reusable wine boxes for like 20 dollars and bladders for 15 dollars for 3. I'm not sure the us plastics cubitainers collapse as you draw off liquid, nor that they are impermeable enough to oxygen to store wine in.

    wine bladders

Does anyone use wine boxes to package cider or wine or barleywine? I can't seem to find a place to buy new empty wine boxes. I could reuse wine boxes buy it takes me a long time to drink 5l of cheap wine.

    So long automation....

I gave up the idea of automating a while back. I have found that the most automatic way to brew beer is to buy it. It's extremely easy, no capital cost, high quality, and tons of variety, and 100% automated. I just have to swipe my credit card and the beer is automatically malted, mashed...

top came off my Firestone keg

Nope, chest freezer. It's easier to lift kegs over the collar with a hand on the bottom vs two hands at the top holding the handles.

top came off my Firestone keg

It turns out that it is not that bad picking it up with one hand on the bottom. It's actually sort of easier, when lifting it up into my fermkeezer.

top came off my Firestone keg

Unfortunately I cut the top up with a utility knife because I assumed that there were metal handles inside the rubber. I guess I could silver solder something on it but I don't know where I would get a SS handle.

top came off my Firestone keg

The top of one of my kegs came off. I was surprised to find that the whole top is apparently just glued on. I would have expected some metal reinforcement to be welded to the keg under the rubber. I actually like the keg this way because it seems cleaner, but I can't pick it up now when it is...

Pumping ice water vs pre-chiller in ice water

Pre-chillers are pointless. For the price of copper to make a good pre chiller your could buy a pump and pump ice water which works better probably anyway.

    calculations help

This is brilliant. Thank you for explaining everything. I was taught by a German and usually follow recipes, but this time I was winging it. My main problem is that I looked up some stuff that the 70% was a typical number for efficiency, but that was deviant American "efficiency". I think I need...

    calculations help

Alcohol is totally irrelevant at this stage. I am only trying to hit original gravity of 12 degrees which is roughly 12% sugar ~1.048.

    calculations help

I thought I understood this by now. Tell me where I am going wrong. I want 19l of 12% beer. Suppose I get 70% efficiency. Then I need 19*0.12/0.70=3.25kg of grain. So that's what I bought, and I am mashing now, but every online calculator says that I am only going to get 1.037 rather...

    best cigarettes

So for those who roll their own, where do you get your supplies from? All the tobaccanists seem to be gone now.

    best cigarettes

I have previously heard good things about the Dunhill but never seen them for sale. I don't like the smell afterwards but cigarettes are amazing. Especially in the right moment.

    best cigarettes

I am surprised we don't have a tobacco forum, did I miss it? What are the best cigarettes that are commonly available? Is there really a difference among them, or is it all fashion? I haven't done much smoking in 10 years or so and back then I just bummed whatever I could get.

    Too much beer while brewing

Uh, nope. You have that backward. Adding top-off water just before pitching is the faster route to pitching temperature than adding it at any earlier time. Newton's law of cooling guarantees it. Adding water immediately will immediately drop the wort temperature some, if that is your goal...

    High pressure keg equalizing

This will work if you know the volume of the beer and the volume of the head - space.

Problem with seal on fermentation corny keg

I think they are for aquariums. So they should be waterproof.

Problem with seal on fermentation corny keg

I seal off the end of the dip tube. A keg - lubed STC1000 probe fits right down it. When it's time to transfer I swap in a "real" dip tube.
