Saw Puddle of Mudd last night

The tickets were free and I always loved the lead singers vocals. His harmonies remind of me of Alice in Chains. Anyway, I wasn't expecting too much but they f*cking rocked. Their bassist is so much better than you'd ever think by listening to studio stuff. If you have the chance to catch their...

How far is your commute? (one way)

There was an older thread about this, which I can't find. So how far do you travel, one way, to work?

What was your first recipe and have you reprised it?

Mine was Palmer's Cincinnati Pale Ale seen below. It came out too sweet but not horrible. I wouldn't use the Amber extract if I did it over. I have never considered making it again, but maybe I should reprise it AG style... 3-4 lbs. of Pale LME 3 lbs. of Amber DME 12 AAUs of Bittering Hop...

Back to bottling - technique check

Since I haven't had to bottle in 1.5 years, I don't completely remember my method. I am thinking of soaking the bottles in Oxyclean, to clean and remove all labels. Then I will rinse them with my jet bottle rinser and put them in the dishwasher. From there I'll run them on the "sanitize" cycle...

How much coffee do you drink?

On any given day, how much in ounces do you consume? I love the taste and the effects of coffee. I am probably around 24-32oz or 3-4 standard sized cups myself ...

This weekend = first brew in 5 months!

I'm brewing the recipe below, which is an ESB by Evan!. I modified it based on what I have, so some things are different. Other than those changes, does anyone have any comments? I mashing high because I want to balance out the higher attenuation of Nottingham. The mini decoction will also help...

    Crank up that thermostat!

This morning we finally had to kick on the furnace and I couldn't be happier. This is the best time of year IMO. Cool weather, NCAA/NFL football, MLB playoffs, the holidays approaching, darker and/or maltier beers, comfort foods, and brewing indoors! :tank:

Back from Europe and ready to brew!

Thanks to everyone for all the help/suggestions/advice. The two week trip was great from beginning to end. I won't go into full detail right now, but in regards to the beer; there was no shortage of quality brew. In Greece it was Heineken, Mythos, and Amstel (not light), which all tasted fresh...

How to not look ignorant in Europe

I'm going to be in Europe for 2 weeks; specifically Germany, Austria, and Greece. I've been out of the US several times, but not to Europe. I'm wondering some things and maybe you guys can help. Are you really supposed to wear a money belt to protect your money/passport? I've read some forums...

Lets talk commercial air travel safety

and why my fear of flying is irrational. I have to fly 10-11 hours to Greece on Sunday and I really don't like flying. I am able to control myself to avoid actual panic, but I'm still pretty nervous. I fly about 1-2 times per year but I've never flown farther than 4 hours. I don't like being...

Drilling cooler for spigot - bad idea?

Should I drill the hole for my brass ball valve or just return the cooler and get one that has the spigot. The potential issues I see are leaking and not having that gasket thing from the existing spigot. I didn't realize that this cooler was spigotless when I bought it, which I can't believe. I...

What's the threshold regarding AG minimalism?

As many of you may already know, I sold about 80% of my brewing equipment. What I didn't sell was my kettle, one Better Bottle, thermometer, bottling bucket, autosiphon, and bottle capper. I'm now thinking of brewing a few times a year as minimally as possible. I know I can do full boils on my...

Does anyone know how to do it. I put one of the fans seen below in my upstairs window. I've got it facing outward and I was hoping to pull air in through the other open windows in the house. Its not working though...

New HBO series - True Blood

Anyone else watch or hear about it? I'm pretty open to vampire stories since I have an affinity for them. I thought the first episode was slow and could have been more cohesive. I'm hoping it will develop more in the next couple episodes. I like the fact that the vampires still have that...

    Testing the waters...

I'm having one beer tonight to see how my stomach takes it. The choice is an American Marzen-style by Victory, called Festbier. The fall season will be tough without beer, so I will sneak a couple in here and there to muddle through...:mug:

    Anybody been to Austria?

We're going in October and will be staying in Vienna, Salzburg, and Innsbruck. I was wondering if anyone can recommend some activities. Since it will be Autumn in the Alps, we'd like to be outside a lot. We love hiking, classical music, and if its cold enough we'd like to snowboard. At this...
