    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

Love this beer. I used Columbia hops with late additions...very nicely balanced. Mashed at 154 with an OG of 1.058 and a FG of 1.018. Great recipe.

Why not use 110 VAC Motorized Valves as well? Why mess with the power supply?

    Best Design for Glycol Chiller

I am looking for advice on what the best design (for a DIYer) would be for automating my chiller to move glycol to 2 Fermenters and 1 Brite tank. My original thought was to use basic temp controllers to turn on a pump and open a motorized ball valve. Would anyone be willing to share their...

Different Mash Temps for specialty grains

Would there be any benefit to mashing specialty grains at a higher temp if trying to achieve a certain sweetness profile with a beer. Trying to attain that plum like character that Newcastle has but don't think mashing the full grain bill at a higher temp will do the trick. I am wondering what...

British Brown Ale Aberdeen Brown Ale (NewCastle Clone) AG

I just kegged this baby and pulled a liter off and forced carb'd it to give it a try. Color is spot on but that is about it. Aroma is a mix between bready/toast and corn. The taste, while delicious, it is nothing like a Newkie B. I followed the recipe to a tee and made no adjustments. I...

No bag, there is a false bottom. The edge material I found on McMaster Carr, I believe it is common in the auto industry. If you search on MMC for Edge Material you should be able to find it.

It hasn't froze up yet...it's been running for weeks...only set at 34. No condensation drips...the ambient is only 56 degrees right now...will be 65 over the summer. I am sure I will have some tweaks to do this summer.

Thrilled with the cooler. I have the temp probe sitting in a yeast vile with a little water in it. Ranco controller set to 34 degrees. It sits at 34 all day turning on about once every 45 minutes or so for about 3 minutes. I did not do a build thread on it but I can post some pictures from...

DIY glycol chilled plastic conical fermenters

I am simplifying the design and trying to eliminate potential points of failure. Check valves are less complicated and do not require a power source or controller to operate. I am using STC type temp controller for the pumps and that should do it. Good tip on the corrosion issue and I agree...

DIY glycol chilled plastic conical fermenters

Yeah I figured check valves would be needed. So there would be a tendency for the fluid to flow backwards towards the pump? I thought if anything if only one pump was on the flow might cause the other tank to move the liquid as it passed by the return inlet at the tank. Would that not also be...

DIY glycol chilled plastic conical fermenters

I am sure this has been tried or asked before, but I am going to ask anyway. WILL THIS WORK and IF NOT, WHY?
