Time For The Year-End Tally (How Much Did You Brew?)

Started about a year ago - 58 gallons of beer and 5 gallons of Appfelwein. This year's brewing started last week and another is scheduled for next week. Looking to easily double last year.

    Imperial IPA OR Barley Wine???

Thanks for the reassurance, Craig. I'm a BIG Stone Brewery Fan and I tend to brew on the darker side. Well, today I brew!!! Than I'll add my OG than FG in about 5-7 days. I'll repost all the info later.

    Imperial IPA OR Barley Wine???

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll keep the alcohol content a bit lower in order to drink it this winter. Not sure about the calories/pint yhing - that is just the calculations that BeerSmith gave me. It might need some tweaking.

    Imperial IPA OR Barley Wine???

I've made this recipe on a smaller 3 gallon scale and it was my BEST ever, but I'm not sure of its classification. I could ramp it up for a definite Barley Wine or leave it where it is and just call it a dark Imperial IPA. What do you all think? (I have the yeast starter ready to go...

American Barleywine AG - Water Into Barleywine

I know there is a simple answer to this, but...... Can this be made with extract? I haven't yet stepped up to up to the "full grain plate" so to speak. Although, I am in desperate need for a Barley Wine recipe.

    Passing the Beer Torch

At what age is one allowed to know about the glorious fruits of homebrewing? My wife's 19 year old half-brother was at my house last weekend and was VERY curious about the whole brewing process. So I showed him my equipment and told him just what I do with it. He's a pretty smart kid who's...

Can I brew a half batch? (2.5gal from 5gal kit)

Some of my best batches have been small. Big problem - you don't want to share them because half of a batch goes really quickly when you start passing it out to friends.

    Help with my gravity reading.

Well, now I know why my alcohol content seems to be a bit higher than my BeerSmith program tells me. For some reason I have been taking the reading after pitching. There hasn't been much of a problem though. Beer is Beer!!! But I am a bit of a Geek for the correct readings. Thanks for the...

    Help with my gravity reading.

Right after I dumped the yeast. I think that that was what threw off the reading a bit.

    Help with my gravity reading.

My numbers were a bit different from the ones above. Those were the numbers in the BYO mag. Starting Gravity was 1.072 Original Gravity was 1.022 It was a pretty big starter though. Not sure how big, it was washed yeast from a previous brew.

    Help with my gravity reading.

Thanks for the reply. It has been sitting at about 50 degrees or so. (I have been changing the frozen water jugs daily.) So it's possible to just use regular old corn sugar? Id rather leave the sediment behind if possible. Than it's bottling time this weekend!!!!

    One line "Ooops"

Threw in the whole yeast starter with a bit too much excess liquid. Not really sure how much over 5 gallons I went. Messed up the attempt to use Beer Smith to check my true gravity. Thank GOD for hydrometers!!!!!

Imperial Stout Clone Recipe Help, Please

It's the Old Rasputin Clone from Brew magazine. They say that it is supposed to be drinkable as soon as any other ale. Would the addition of more chocolate then need it to age longer? If so, how long? Six months will be way too long for me to wait. Maybe I should just omit the brown malt...
