    Man, I love Apfelwein

Just bottled my second batch of a modified recipe (used brown sugar instead of dextrose in this one). I was surprised at how much darker the color of this batch was compared to my first regular batch. From the sample I tasted it was slightly different from the regular recipe but only subtly.

Just bottled one of the 2 gallon batches I've been fermenting for 6 weeks. Tasted a small sample of it that wasn't half bad. I'm going to bottle carb and let it condition for the next few weeks.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Just brewed a couple 2 gal batches in my Mr Beer kegs. One of them was the recipe in the OP and one I tweaked a little bit, using a lb and a half of brown sugar and cote des blanc yeast. I'll report back with results :)

    Question About Yeast

Hello I'm pretty new to homebrewing (only done 1 Mr. Beer recipe, the one that came with it at that) and am now getting ready to do a couple batches of EdWort's Apfelwein. The one question I've searched for an answer to but couldn't find was this, because I'm not doing a full 5 gallon batch of...

4 oz of yeast? Is that a lot for a 2 gal batch? I'm also getting ready to brew in a MR Beer keg and was curious on how much yeast to use. Should I scale it down for a smaller batch or just pitch the whole packet (5 grams)?

I think since there aren't any hops in the recipe it should be fine.

I have another question :o I live out of city limits and all I have is well water. Should I buy some bottled water (distilled water?) to sanitize my equipment?

Boil is kinda the wrong word I should have said steeped instead which is more what I meant. Thanks for the help, I'm gonna try do get the stuff and do this tomorrow. One last question would using yeast nutrient be a good idea?

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I just want a hint of the clove in there. The tea won't water down the apfelwein will it? Sorry if that's a newbish question. I didn't realize that boiling it in the apple juice would be a problem. I guess I'll just make a tea out of it like jtkratzer suggested. Doing an extract sounds...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

What I was thinking about doing with the spices was boiling them for a couple minutes in some of the apple juice or some water, cut the heat, and then dissolve the sugar in the the same pot. Let it cool then add it to the rest of the juice. Maybe I should use a little less if it was "present" in...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Hello new here. I've decided to do this as my first real home brew experience. I have a quick question though what if I added some of this to it? Would that be a good way to up the apple flavor of it? Sorry if something like this has been asked before. EDIT: Might as well put up the recipes I'm...
