A question about Coriander in a porter and another question about yeast

So, my gf is at work, and I am up way too early on a Sunday brewing. Right now, my Taddy Porter like beer is in the mash tun, and I just decided that I want to add some coriander to it. I was thinking of adding about a tablespoon of the crushed seeds to the boil. Is this too much? Too...

    Another One-Step Question

I am about to use OneStep when bottling tonight, and I am wondering if I need to let the bottles dry before I use them? Or, is it safe to simply shake the bottle upside down to get all the water/OneStep out and then fill it up with brew? Thanks, tired

    austin HBS kits?

A while ago, I was thinking of ordering the Newcastle clone from Austin Homebrew and I emailed them asking how I should alter their instructions if I was planning on mashing rather than steeping. Their response was: "If you do mini mash in your cooler use the amount of grain the recipe calls...

    best brew site

I like Austin Homebrew since IMHO they have the best website that is simple to navigate through to find what you want. They also have the best selection that I could find of already prepared recipes for extract/mini-mash/all grain.

    Questions about 3 Gallon AG

Craig: I just did some more reading based on your advice, and it looks like you just saved me from messing up my first AG. Thank you, tired

    Hi from Boston

The Mod thing definitely existed in the US, but it was/is on such a tiny scale compared to the UK. Over the years of riding scooters, the majority of people I meet seem to be from ska/punk backgrounds. In Boston, I have met a number of mods, but have only had one friend whose scooter had...

    Hi from Boston

I grew up in Chicago, but got my first scooter when I lived in San Francisco years ago. I was never a mod, but I have always been a fan of The Jam. -tired

    Hi from Boston

I have been lurking and posting on homebrewtalk for about a month now, and I realized that I have not introduced myself yet. I have been brewing on and off for about 15 years. Unfortunately, most of the time has been spent with my equipment sitting idle in the basement. I started brewing in...

    Questions about 3 Gallon AG

I've checked out the calculators and the spreadsheet. Both taught me a lot (which I should have learned before taking the leap towards AG). However, I have a few questions before I brew my first 3 Gallon AG: I am making a Brown Ale with about 5.7lbs of grain: 1. I am using a 5 gallon...

    Brew Belt

I live in Boston and my apartment is way too cold to ferment an ale during the Winter. People have told me that you can use the brew belt on glass since it is only a light heat, but I don't want to take the chance of the glass breaking and having to clean up the mess (and wasting the brew)...

Better Bottle carboys and the Spigot

Thanks for the quick replies. I am not sure if I am going to use a turkey baster or pick up a wine thief, but both are a hell of a lot cheaper than the spigot. -tired

Better Bottle carboys and the Spigot

I am about to pick up a Better Bottle Carboy. The problem is that I am cheap and I do not want to pay the extra cash to get a spigot. Since I already have a racking cane, I don't really care about having a spigot for bottling or transferring to the bottling bucket, but I am tempted to get the...

    Questions about 3 Gallon AG

Thanks for the info and the calculator link. It is good to know that I am not alone in wanting to do a 3 Gallon AG brew. I think that I am ready to order the ingredients, but I just realized I have no idea how much water to use to end up with 3 gallons. How much should I add to the Mash...

    Questions about 3 Gallon AG

I know that I should be brewing larger batches, but I want to try a few 3 gallon AG recipes before investing the cash on new equipment. My last few batches have been tasty partial mashes. I have a 5 gallon mash tun (a cooler conversion) and a 4 gallon brew pot. I have read a few...

How few grains with 5 Gallon cooler MLT?

Like the original poster, I have a 5 gallon converted cooler with a SS braid that I have been using for partial mashes, but, lately, I have been wondering which AG beers will fit in my cooler. Would I be able to brew something like a Nut Brown Ale or would I need to brew something lighter...

2 Qs about grain and one about bottling

Thanks! One last question (for now), would it be okay to bring the bottles to the cold basement after they conditioned for a few weeks or might that be a bad idea? Time to do some research on cold conditioning...

2 Qs about grain and one about bottling

    1. How long do milled grains stay fresh if they are stored in a zip lock bag? 2. I am going to be doing a mini mash in a non-converted cooler. Is it okay to use a mesh bag for the grains? I am just curious since it seems like the all grain brewers don't use mesh bags even though it seems...

    bottling timetable

Yes, plan where and how and where you are going to do each step, and have a few old towels/rags ready for a quick clean-up (you will be mopping in the end). This will save a lot of time. Also, make sure that you have a place where you can hang your tubes from after you sanitize them so that...
