    EdWort's Apfelwein

I think there is a thread around here about this somewhere....

    60 minutes vs shorter boils.

The primary purpose of a 60 minute boil is to eliminate DMS. Some people will actually boil 90 minutes or even two hours for further DMS reduction. Also, it gives you plenty of time to have a few while brewing :)

Another thankless rant if you care to listen

Before reading this thread I thought offal just meant poop. At that point I was really intrigued to see where your post was going...

As far as rants go that was not a very good one.

    Bottle Capper?

The beer will be fine sitting in primary for another week(s)/month(s) Order a capper online or go to a brew shop if there is one near you and buy one. No rush

    Mold in my carboy?

If it is mold then you will want to rack it to another container ASAP. Probably a decent chance you will be able to salvage it.

    Mold in my carboy?

Got pictures? Could just be krausen gunk.
  9. Hoppin_Mad

    What are you talking about

A blow off hose is just some plastic tubing stuffed down the hole of a carboy. The other end is usually placed in a bucket with shallow water/vodka/starsan. It allows the gunk produced during a vigorous fermentation to be guided somewhere. yeast starter -...

    First session is complete...

You could probably throw in some dextrose if you are really desperate to up the ABV, but I would say just leave it as is. You will have plenty of chances to brew up higher alcohol brews in the future. And just think - people in Oklahoma have to drink 2.4% beer their whole lives!

Infection forming? Or just lots of thick bubbles?

bottle it when the hydrometer says to! :)

    Chocolate Cherry Stout question

I have made a cherry stout a couple times. Both times I have added all of my cherries along with my aroma hop addition at about 10 minutes to go in the boil. I have gotten great cherry flavor this way. The only thing I would suggest is steering clear of frozen cherries. I have made the stout...

    Dumping this batch: Infected

I feel like this thread would really bother this guy: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f45/has-anyone-seen-yeast-starter-saga-234201/

    Hello from Plano, TX

You are probably right down the road from the LHBS I use (Homebrew HQ).
  15. Hoppin_Mad

Quick question - hopefully I get a quick response!

The last liquid yeast pack I ordered from them was no good. I live in Dallas and I know it ain't any cooler in Austin. Probably tough for them to ship liquid packs at all with temps frequently around 100. I am probably going to be getting yeast from my LHBS until the fall. Still love AHS though!

    Question (wort shelf life)

I doubt it will go bad before SOMETHING eats it. It can either be your yeast, or whatever gets there first.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Gee I wonder why they didn't, especially with such a commercially friendly name!

    first taste of Meade

Yea.... it is at flying saucer and the other bar owned by the same dude. Prices are fairly reasonable on the rest of their beer. Dunno what is up with it.
  19. Hoppin_Mad

    first taste of Meade

I have never even tried one. Only two places I know to get it it costs around 30 bucks for a glass. :(

grey scum on top of beer in fermenter

Do an image search for pellicle on beer. If it looks like that it might be trouble. Otherwise it is probably just bubbles/ yeast. It is most likely fine. Got a pic?
