    Just bottled my porter

Just bottled my first batch, a porter. Starting gravity of 1.044 final of 1.019. Around 4% abv as near as I can figure in my head. I primed with 3/4 cup corn sugar and I am hoping beyond all hope that it will be carbonated in a little under two weeks for the Super Bowl. I've even made a...

My First beer at 15 days post brew.

I am brewing a porter with this recipe. It has been fermenting 15 days at about 68 degrees. It has dropped from 1.044 to 1.022. The airlock hasn't bubbled since the second day, but when I was watching the beer just now, there were bubbles steadily rising in the bucket. There was an oily film...

Best label type for a cooler full of ice

I live in a small apartment and don't have room for a second fridge, so when I have parties a cooler of ice is how I keep large amounts of beer cold. I'd like my guests to be able to pull the beers out without the labels looking like garbage. What type of labels have you found that are able to...

Airlock bubbled for less than 24 hours

My airlock only bubbled for less than 24 hours. Is this something that is wrong or is that normal? The beer is a porter with a SG of 1.044 that I pitched with a Wyeast Activator British Ale yeast.

    Cool beer memorabilia

I was given by my mom a 1L Lowenbrau Beer boot that my Grandpa got when he used to own bars. They were made as part of he advertising ramp up leading up to the Munich Olympics. What cool stuff do you guys have?

    Primary fermentation length?

I have seen mixed opinions on this website. Some people as to keep it in primary as long as possible some say bottle it once the FG stays stable for a few days. I'd like to hear the debate on both sides.

    Suggestions for second batch?

I really like like dark beers, I'm doing a porter for my first batch, and fruity lighter beers (I love wit). I kind of want to try something fun and new that I haven't had before. Any suggestions for something fun for a beginner to brew? Any thoughts on a Raspberry Wit?

My first brew is under way!

My grains are steeping right now! I'm very excited! Fresh brewed porter should be ready for the Superbowl! That will give me 3 weeks in primary and two days shy of three weeks in the bottle!

Tips on my Porter recipe for my first batch

I am going to make a variant of Goat Scrotum Ale from Joy of Homebrewing. My interpretation of the recipe is as follows: 6 lbs Dark malt extract (calls for 5, but 6 is easier to find/cheaper to buy) 1 lb crystal malt (i'm thinking of using 40L) 1/4 lb black patent 1/4 lb roasted barley 1...

    Electric stove vs. Butane Burner

So I have read that electric stoves are not ideal for boiling your wort. I have an electric stove. But I also have a 10,000 BTU butane camp burner. Which would be better for doing 2-3 gallon boils in my 5 gallon enamel brew pot, the electric stove or the butane burner?

I just got a home brew kit for christmas and am looking to do my first batch! The kit I got is the basic true brew kit w/ auto siphon. It came with the book Homebrew and I have read the first section (beginners) and second section, about using specialty grains. I also have read the beginner...
