Should I try to fix Blichmann Brewmometer?

Where did you order it from and how long have you had it? I ordered one back in October from Northern Brewer and when I went to use it in November it got water in it and clouded up. I tried to figure out how he water got in so I can get it out and had no luck. I called Northern Brewer a few days...

Anyone used this? Sanke to corny conversion kit?

Yes I got mine about a month ago, it works great haven't had any problems and it makes it much easier to connect a commercial keg without having to swap lines, if you use commercial kegs and ball locks I highly recommend it.

    Filtration

When I filter I use a cartridge filter I got from more beer.com, it was around the same cost as the plate filter and works great. I run mine at about 5psi and it takes about 15-20 min to fill a keg.

Using plate chiller to recirculate mash

Sorry for the delayed response but have been very busy the past few days and haven't been on the Internet. When I build my new system I will probably go with a herms coil in he hlt just because I'm looking at stout tanks and I can have one built into the tank that's SS, but I will probably sell...

Using plate chiller to recirculate mash

I do currently still use my cfc as a herms, I have never had any problems with clogs or anything gumming up on me. I still have not added a temperature controller to the system because it looks like I will be upgrading my entire brewery to all ele tric in the near future and don't want to spend...

splitting a starter into 2 buckets

I split starters all the time, all I do is make sure it's stirred very good and all the yeast is mixed into the starter and not on the bottom of the flask and then pour 1/2 into one batch and the rest in the second batch, it's not really the most scientific way of doing it but I have never had...

    Growler / bottle filler

I fill growlers and bombers for use within a few dayswith a hose connected to my faucet or with a picnic tap with a racking cane stuck into it. I have had beers bottled this way last for 3-4 weeks with no issues. I use a beer gun to bottle anything that I know will probably be in the bottle...

Kegs - Chilling then Removing to Room Temp?

I have taken many chilled kegs and then let them sit at room temp with no problems. I would recommend trying to keep the warmed kegs at a stable room temp I one or two kegs go bad that I had in my garage because of the huge temperature swings at temps up in the 90's.

    Brew day gathering?

I recently started a new rule that drop ins do not get offered a beer. I live on a main road through the neighborhood and people tend to drive by and see me out there and drop in for a beer. My issue isn't with large amounts of people it's people showing up on brew day or non brew day and...

Two batches in one fermentation chamber

I have a very large chest freezer that I use to ferment in and almost ways have 2-3 batches fermenting at a time. I usually brew them all the same day and put them all in together and leave the temp probe hanging in the open with a fan circulating the air in there. After giving them plenty of...

    2 starters, 1 stirplate

My typical brew day is usually 2 batches with 2 different types of yeast. I only have 1 stir plate and what I do is make starters in 2 different flasks each with its own stir bar and put one on the stir plate for a few hours and then whenever I go to check on my starters I swap them back and...

    Plate filter vs. canister filter

Canister filter is the way to go. If i primary my beer for 3-4 weeks it comes out crystal clear and everyone asks how did i get it so clear, but sometimes i dont have 3-4 weeks for a primary so i use a canister filter and it works really good. I ferment in sanke kegs and if i want to filter on...

    A question about counterflow chillers...

This is they way i do it circulate through the cfc for the last few min of the boil and also use an ic, when the boil is over start a whirlpool and using both will really speed up the process. When its chilled wait a 20 or so min for everything to settle then pump into fermenter.
