    RYE IPA Critique

Do not drop the flaked rye at all. I have brewed a lot of rye beers and i find a get a much better rye flavor with the flaked rye. The down side of the flaked rye is you do not get much fermentable sugars.

    ::State Fair::

I entered three wines, i didnt do any beers. My Blueberry/Zin won BOS. But the completiton was kinda messed up on the judging. It was not the standard judging of scoresheet. Did you ever enter anything? I just moved to Wasilla from Soldotna. Do we have a Homebrew club in the valley or does...

    flaked rye vs rye malt

Thats what i have heard myself. So i brewed the same recipe with both with flaked and malted rye. Myself, i tasted much more rye in the beer with the flaked rye over the malted. But thats just me.

    Man cave E-brewery

Thanks for the complements. The room is temp regulated, but its on its own thermostat. I have a walk-in closet that not in the pictures were i ferment. I am thinking about getting a chest freezer next to the panel and control the temp with the BCS to use as a fermentation chamber. But here in...

    Man cave E-brewery

So after about 6 months i am very close to finishing my man cave/ brewing room. When i started working on the room all i had was sheetrock on the walls. I went with acid staining the cement for easy clean out. I went with conventional cabinets and granite in case a ever get out of brewing and...

50amp GFCI Spa panel safe at well below 50amps?

Ok guys thanks for the input. Sounds like I will be safe to use a 50 amp spa panel along with the breaker in the box? The main breaker will offer the Overload protection and the spa panel the gfci protection.

50amp GFCI Spa panel safe at well below 50amps?

I know this is an old thread but I am getting a 30amp BCS 460 panel from Ebrewsupply, i have 30 amp service to the brew room. So a 50 amp panel will not offer GFCI protection? I am having a hard time finding a 30 amp panel. May be cheaper to put a GFCI breaker in the box? Thanks for any input

    Sparkling Wine

I have been toying with the idea of making a sparkling wine. All the info i have found online suggests using a champagne yeast and bottle conditioning. I make a Strawberry/Mango wine that i think would be great as a sparkling wine. So my question is could this wine be made like normal...

Slowly building my brew system (what to add next?)

I would get a wort chiller before you even consider getting a bigger kettle. A 15 gallon kettle is not much good if you can not cool it down in a timely fashion. As far as the glass carboys, i have been getting away from them. I still have 4 but i have been using to the better bottles. I...

    Batch sparging timing

    Real Ale at home?

I have always want to try making a cask conditioned ale, but the fact that you have to finsh the cask so fast has always been a turn off. Might be fun at a BBQ in the summer where i had help to drink all 5 gallons.

    I found Amarillo hops!

I love Label Peelers. They seem to have the best selection on bulk hops and fair prices. But dont let that get out, or there will be none left!!!

    How to control carbonation?

I like my ciders carbonated, but thats me. You can go in beersmith and adjust the volumes of CO2 you want. That will tell you have much priming sugar you need to get the volumes of CO2 you want. Just make sure you get your volume (gallons) of cider correct!

Cold water for chillin the wort...

I am down in Soldotna. I use 50' of 3/8" on my wort chiller. Its takes 10-15 min to chill down 10 gallons. My well water is about the same time. Its nice having cold water, 3/8" copper is a lot cheeper and easier to work with than 1/2"

Who leaves the lid loose on the fermenter

I use a pillow case to cover my fermentor when i am doing wine. It lets O2 in and keeps stuff from getting in. Works great and i have never had any issues. I go to an airlock around 1.20 SG or so, when fermentation slows.
