My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

We're in business! I went with the bucket-in-a-bucket design with one small mod. Left bucket has the bottom cut out along with the center of another lid that acts like a skirt to support it on top of the right bucket. Crush and just lift off the top bucket and you are left with a bucket...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

Just to check myself, I ran the output through a strainer. In the first pic, you can see the separation of what was passed through the strainer on the right vs. what remained in the strainer on the left. The second pic shows a cloesup on what remained in the strainer which should contain the...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I picked through the entire crush and didn't find any hulls intact. My main concern is (and always has been) the notion that shredded husks add astringency to the final product. I know that this is a Hillary vs. Trump kinda topic and has been poo-poo'd by most of the Corona Mill advocates so I...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

Is this too fine of a crush for "BIAB in a Cooler"? I see lots of mangled husks but I also ran the drill full out. Does that become less of a factor at slower speeds? EDIT: Hey my American friends....see the post #? :D

OK to store corn sugar and water mixture?

So, I was getting ready to bottle my latest batch. I boiled the water and corn sugar mixture and was letting it cool when...BAM...I tweaked my lower back. :( It is OK to put the mixture into a sanitized canning jar for a few days when I am ready to bottle? John

For those of you who BIAB + Sparge

Has anyone actually tried to do a hybrid BIAB + batch sparge? I am thinking of trying this with my next brew... - Mash in my bag with half of my total water (~5 gallons). - Vorlauf. - Drain kettle into a bucket dedicated to hot wort transfer. - Batch sparge for 10 minutes with 2.5...

How to brew All-grain without a separate mash-tun, and without using BIAB

Or just dedicate one bucket for transfer only.

How to brew All-grain without a separate mash-tun, and without using BIAB

Surprised this thread hasn't blown up. I'm interested in hearing more opinions.

How to brew All-grain without a separate mash-tun, and without using BIAB

Fortunately I am one of those who never had this issue with the braids. Not sure why but I didn't question it. :) John

How to brew All-grain without a separate mash-tun, and without using BIAB

Looks great! My thought is that since you go to the trouble to remove the bazooka anyway to clean it, it may be worth it to have a mesh one just to make your runnings that much clearer. Of course it is an extra cost but problably only $10 or so if memory serves. John

For those of you who BIAB + Sparge

Do you find that you do not need to crush your grains as fine since you really are mashing in a more traditional fashion? I have been contemplating moving from no sparge to pour sparge to avoid having to crush my grains so fine in the hopes that I would avoid so much trub. Also, check this...

How to brew All-grain without a separate mash-tun, and without using BIAB

I am intrigued also (being a BIAB brewer). One suggestion... For the mash I would opt ot use a SS mesh water supply line casing (much like you see in traditional cooler mash tuns). I can't see the bazooka tube doing a very good job at filtering the fine grain particulates. Prior to...

    $6.44 Fermentation Bucket (2 - 4 gallon batches)

The lids that I listed above also have a gasket and are a MAJOR PITA to get off. If anyone has weak fingers I suggest you get a lid remover. :) John

    $6.44 Fermentation Bucket (2 - 4 gallon batches)

I'll preface all of this with the following: 1. Cost of an airlock is not included. However, if you have some 1/2" OD vinyl tubing lying around, you can just shove that into the grommet and use it as a blow off tube. 2. You can do all of this for $.50 total cost if you don't mind...

    First BIAB Brew Day Today

A common mistake. Don't get hung up on efficiency. It is all about consistency! All higher efficiency means is that you can use less grains to achieve the same OG (really just saving you $$$). It is far more important that you can achieve consistent brewhouse efficiency. If you can...

    First BIAB Brew Day Today

OK...so you know most of the basics then. I did one extract and then jumped into full blown AG (converted cooler --> mash tun, etc.). I then discovered BIAB and wish I would have found it sooner. :) John

    First BIAB Brew Day Today

Yes. You say it is your first BIAB. By that can we assume you have brewed before (extract)? John

    $4.87 keg tool

Well, I just used the $4.87 tool on the heaviest, thickest walled pot I have ever seen and it performed beautifully. I was really concerned that the copper reducer or the PVC sleeve would fail but they both passed with flying colors. The only thing that I used/did differently was rather than...
