    RIMS Brewery System

I am unfortunately moving and need to part with my pride and joy... The RIMS configuration I designed uses three vessels (boil, mash and HL). The crown jewel has to be the 20 gal Blichmann Boilermaker for the mash (including false bottom). The boil and the HL tank have each a burner under...

Christmas Ale, process not recipe question

I do not see any problem with that. Boiling longer could limit your final volume and raise the gravity, but for 10 or 20 minutes, that does not seem to be a problem.

Two 13 Gallon Brew Cube Fermenters

I used one of the Fermenters once and have yet to use the other. They are too big to fit in my new refrigeration system, so I am looking to down grade to bucket fermenters with spigots. I'm looking for 30 bucks for the used one, and 35 for the brand new one. Or, I will trade one for two buckets...

    Shelf Life For Hoppy Beers?

Aha! You have over carbonated it! I've done exactly the same thing. With hoppy beers, I find the taste profile is better at lower pressures (20-25 psi). Anything above 25 might acidify the beer too much (lower it's pH). This is what happens: the bittering chemicals in hops are grouped into two...

    Pitched starter late, yeast dead

You should try pitching more yeast. The worst that can happen is the batch doesn't taste that good and you can pitch after you stepped through this valuable learning experience... Starters should be used within the first 4-5 days after pitching (depending on the yeast). I've used starters that...

    Bubblegum ester without high fermentation?

I am not sure if the lactic acid in the sparge affected the taste, but I do know that 1/3 tsp for 6 gal is not enough to bring the pH to 5.2-5.4 range. I calculated the pH (based on neutral water) and it was 5.69. Typically, tap water has a pH from 7.5-7.8, so the pH could be even higher. 1 tsp...

    beer backflow into CO2 line

How full did you fill your keg? If it is too full, and you are adding CO2 to the beer, you could potentially back beer in the line. You are adding mass (CO2) to a vessel that contains an incompressible fluid (beer). As the CO2 infuses into the beer, the density of the beer will decrease and beer...

    Hello fellow homebrewers!

Welcome to home brewing. It is easily the most fun and potentially frustrating hobby you can find. I have been brewing for 10 years now, although I am fairly new to this site. One thing you will notice is when you move to AG is is the quality and complexity of the beer improves greatly. Don't...

Clear tubing for my sight glass

Did you buy your sightglass or make it yourself? Typically the tubing you want is clear polypropylene. You can find this at omega.com or mcmaster.com. If you bought a pre-made one, it should be made with this material already. I have the same issue whenever I use my HLT as a brew kettle, for it...
