Can it even be done? Measuring Specific Gravity using Arduino or Raspberry Pi

Nope! Not tolerant at all. I've got mine hooked through via a closed blowoff container (water filter housing) and a moisture filter.

MalFet's bottle washer for lazy homebrewers

Unfortunately, my hunch is that it wouldn't work, at least not very well. Though it's not pressure per se that cleans the bottles, you do need significant turbulence to wear down deposits. If you're just piping water into a full bottle, I doubt you'll get that. If you try, though, let us know...

Can it even be done? Measuring Specific Gravity using Arduino or Raspberry Pi

Sorry, I never quite got around to writing things up, and most of my gear is in storage far, far away from me for the foreseeable future. Happy to help from memory as I can, though. My mass flow controller didn't have a totalizer built in, but it did have a serial connection. I used that...

Yeast immobilization: magic beans of fermentation

That's not necessarily true. Yeast growth is exponential, but the dynamics of that growth are shaped by environmental factors. The most important of these factors is the density of available food. If food is abundant, you'll get the kind of explosive reproduction we all see with a good pitch...

Yeast immobilization: magic beans of fermentation

Hmm...what's 100% false? Nothing I've said was meant to suggest that washing your yeast with StarSan will kill it. In fact, acid washing is a fairly common thing in pro breweries.

    AZ_IPA- Ninkasi Winner 2014

Alright, you're still a schmuck. :) But, also a phenomenal brewer. And, apparently, much too modest. :mug:

How on earth did I miss this! And here I was thinking you were just another schmuck like the rest of us. Well done, man. I am truly impressed. :mug:

MalFet's bottle washer for lazy homebrewers

I've had a few people ask me this, so I think you're not alone. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of insight to offer. I got all my parts at a very small neighborhood hardware store in upper-Manhattan. (Speaking only for myself, if I could find all the other parts in CPVC, I'd probably just...

Hello from Chicago, Kathmandu, & Shanghai

Welcome! We seem to have some remarkably similar orbits. I was in Chicago for many years, but now bounce between NYC and KTM (mostly the latter recently). Good luck with the new venture!

Yeast immobilization: magic beans of fermentation

My understanding was that the surfactant janked up metabolic activity directly and that the acid was mostly necessary to create proper ionic gradient. Is that not correct? I certainly could be wrong, as this stuff gets above my knowhow very quickly. My only real source on sanitation beyond...

    refractometer question

Refractometers can be very useful in measuring FG if you've got a baseline established. In other words, if a certain recipe gave you a certain reading for your final gravity, in theory and in my experience you should get that same correlation again when you brew that beer a second time. (And...

    Bubbles transferring to bottling bucket

You want to have good seals on everything so that you don't get air sucked in from a venturi effect, but in all likelihood what you're seeing is super-saturated CO2 coming out of solution. In other words, not a problem. :mug:

    Fermentation done, Krausen still there...

If it's still formed as foam, it shouldn't transfer to the keg. In fact, stirring it up now would almost certainly lead to more protein in the final produce.

    Fermentation done, Krausen still there...

Krausen is just protein foam. Usually it falls, but sometimes it doesn't. If it's not preventing you from racking (and there's no reason it should be), there's no real benefit to be had by breaking it apart beforehand.
