Well....I don't know how it turned out. I haven't had the keg space...lol. its been secondsrying for like 6 weeks. It looks really clear. I tried some when I checked the gravity and it was very nice. Im planning to keg in the next week or so. Ill keep you all posted. Btw the fg was like...

    Attenuation

Thanks for all the tips. I'm gonna check the mash ph, as I feel its the only place left to look. As far as the starters... I make em all the time... and it doesn't seem to matter a whole lot. I just didn't have time this last time. I'll update you next week when i brew. Chad

    OMG... a Blago sighting! LOL

    Attenuation

meh.... temperature correction isn't an issue. I use a refractometer with ATC for my OG. I use a hydrometer to test FG at 70 degrees.

    Attenuation

The calibrate them all at the factory by hand before the system ships. Its only seen 2 brews so far, so I can't imagine its wrong. Also, its on a thermocouple that is digitally monitored. The heat exchanger then keeps the temp at the right spot. There is also a therm attatched to the actual...

Could fool around with a little acid malt I guess....

    Attenuation

Yeah, I've never dropped in secondary more than like 2 points. I don't bottle though, I keg. Also... I've almost ALWAYS use starters. This last time, i didn't because I was short on time, so I just bought another smack pack. I figured 2 smack packs in such a low gravity wort would be fine...

    Attenuation

I hear ya guys. I use a Brewmagic system, so I'm pretty certain the thermometer is right. Also, this time I used Wyeast 1084, which means I should have gotten about 73%. IIRC. So, I think my attenuation this time was about 70%. It doesn't seem to matter what strain I use, and I've batch...

    Attenuation

Ok, here is the deal. I've been brewing for 17 years. I have always had attenuation problems. I've used pure 02. I've used an aquarium pump. I've underpitched, I've overpitched. I'm always about 3-5 points short of where I want to be. Not a huge deal in my most recent beer, but a...

Taking your advice. Boil, cool. Store... thanks

    Distilled Water

Any issues with infections or bacteria using storebought gallon jugs of distilled water? Gonna store some yeast, and wondered if I should boil it first. I guess that would defeat the purpose though. I just get nervous as to how sanitary their bottling is.... Any advice would be...

What temp should I ferment at? Not really sure how high to go.. I'm thinking ambient room temp at about 74? Using Wyeast 3787 Trappist. Very simple malt bill. 10 gallons 20 LB Pilsner Malt Tradition for bittering Saaz for flavoring Thanks!

    SS Braid

Probably. You'd probably get a little less channeling leading to better efficiency, but again, why bother? I batch sparged for years and great luck.

Short on yeast today, should I underpitch?

I'm gonna brew a stout this afternoon. I only have 1 smack pack of Wyeast 1084 Irish Ale yeast. I was planning 10 gallons. I didn't have time to get a starter going yesterday, so I plan to smack the pack once it warms up. My local HBS is $10 for a smack pack, plus he doesn't open until...

    First run on the Brewmagic.

Will do when I have the chance. I've got some on my cell, but I can't get those online, cuz I don't know how... LOL

    First run on the Brewmagic.

Hehe... I didn't mess with the grainbed. I think it had more to do with the extreme speed at which I sparged. I'm gonna try to slow it to a trickle next time. Maybe I should practice some more with just water, silly as it sounds. Also, I notice when I was bringing my mash temp up that with...

    First run on the Brewmagic.

Well, I had some grain pieces in my boil. That was with crush set at .048. The Brewmagic has a stainless false bottom. My point is that if I'm getting some grain pieces at .048, I'd probly have WAY too much grain in the boil, and would get an astringency in my brews from that. I dunno. What...

    First run on the Brewmagic.

Gila- Thank you for the tips. I'll run the same crush next time, and check the flow rate. I just found it really hard to see how fast I was running out.... as you said. I'll slow it way down next time and see where we're at. I'm going to convert to nat gas when I can. I just need to decide...

    First run on the Brewmagic.

I guess I need to get a decent feeler gauge to see exactly where I'm at... I used sheets of paper to guesstimate where I'm at on my gap. Also, I did have some grain pieces in my boiling kettle under the false bottom, so I'm guessing I need to up the gap some, and not close it.
