    Green fuzzy mold

I was hoping there was going to be some dissent saying it was fine. Down the drain it goes.

    Green fuzzy mold

I have this growing on the top of a Flanders red I started June 29th. I mashed high with a small amount of aged hops. Copitched wyeast 1275, roeselare and a built up starter of a local brewery’s Flanders red, Indeed. The built up starter had no mold and tasted like good sour beer. Primary for...

    RO water prediction

I purchased a TDS meter for the rig so I can tell when the filters need replacing. What I don’t understand is how that relates to a mineral profile in the water. Are most people sending the RO water to be tested? Do you try and calculate the minerals left based on the rejection rate of filter...

    RO water prediction

I just ordered the 75 GPD RO system with drinking water add on below from Buckeye Hydro which I will be using for brewing and drinking water. I see in Bru'n Water there is a profile for RO water but I'm assuming that the end result depends on the source. Attached is the water report from Ward...

    Homemade PBW Recipe

I see that a lot of people use Red Devil TSP 90 which I don't see available locally. Are there any concerns with using the product below? Product link...

How to make 10% Phosphoric Acid if starting from 85%, 75%, or 30% Phosphoric Acid

Thanks for making this post. I have been mixing this up wrong since I bought the gallon jug a few years back, I originally proved out the Mash Made Easy sheet with LHBS bought 10% and stopped checking the ph after it was correct a few times. I have been mixing this up using V1*C1=V2*C2. So 1...

Cherry lambic, direct to primary after 20 months, headspace

I started a lambic back in July 2018 using Wyeast 3278 and a turbid mash, it has been in the primary since. Today I added (3) 14.5 oz cans of Oregon Tart Cherries directly you the primary. After doing so it struck me that maybe the Brett aren’t active enough to scavenge the oxygen in the...

    Brewing during COVID

The virus doesn’t live long outside of a host. Up to 3 days on stainless. Put the beers away for a few days and they are safe. https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/new-coronavirus-stable-hours-surfaces

    Minimizing oxidation when dry hopping

I ferment under pressure in corny kegs, I’ll take gravity readings throughout with a refractometer and dry hop in a bag when there is 0.010-0.006 left to go until FG. I then crank up the pressure on the spunding valve to carbonate the beer at the same time as fermentation finishes out. Once it...

    Minnesota Keggle and keg HLT

While I don't mind bringing it somewhere to be shipped I would expect that to be cost prohibitive. I just checked on UPS ground and it is $60 per keg to NY with made up weights and rough dimensions, don't quote me on the cost though. If this still sounds interesting let me know and we can look...

    DIY BIAB basket?

So with one of those false bottoms and your bags I could recirculate without fear of a stuck flow?

    DIY BIAB basket?

Well I wish I would have asked about that before I mangled my basket. A larger micron bag may have solved it. I cut a bunch of larger openings to increase the free area but admittedly did a poor job which is how I ripped the bag. It seems like no matter how much I grind with a dremel there are...

    DIY BIAB basket?

If I was doing single rest mashes I would do just that. Most of what I brew is Czech and German lagers though. One of my goals when going to eBIAB was step mashing and the ability to hold and adjust temps while doing decoction mashes.

    DIY BIAB basket?

I've been using a Bayou Classic with steamer basket and a Wilser bag for my recirculating BIAB setup. I had some problems with the bag not draining fast enough even during the slowest re circulation speeds so I cut larger openings in the basket but ended up ripping the bag as I had a burr on the...
