    Brown malt technique, SRM?

Just checked Beer Smith and it says Amber 22 srm, and Brown 65. I made a batch based on the BYO article, and it came out great. I would definitely recommend giving home toasted malt a try.

Highly Hopping a Wheat Beer -- Do It?

I made an American wheat with 5# 2 row 5 # wheat and .25# honey malt. Hopped to around 40 IBU's with centennial and cascade, and dry hopped with 2 oz. of cascade. I used wyeast American wheat. It's been in the keg for 2 weeks, and I love the aroma and flavor. I say go for it.

I would vote for the American wheat. It came out nice and crisp. Its a great summer beer, and an simple kit.

    My first Stout

I usually let my beers sit in the primary for two weeks, then pull a hydrometer sample and check the FG. I then let it set for another week and pull another sample. If the FG has not changed, I bottle. Using a carbonation calculator like the one mentioned above or beersmith will give you a good...

American Amber Ale Caramel Amber Ale

I brewed this three weeks ago. Just pulled a hydro sample tonight. I don't want to get my hopes to high, but this might be my best yet. The sample was a perfect caramel/cherry color, and it smelled fantastic. The taste was exactly what I had hoped from the description. I am going to let it sit...

First all grain and a ?

Thanks for the response. That's good to know. In the future I plan on converting a 10 g cooler for my mash tun, and using my 5 g for a HLT or for partial mashes in the winter.

First all grain and a ?

Well I finished my first all grain brew day yesterday. It took around 6 hrs. I think everything went fairly well. I batch sparged and collected around 6 1/4 gallons of wort. Had my first 2 boil overs when I couldn't get the burner shut off fast enough, a spray bottle of water took care of the...

    Hello from central Illinois

FromZwolle I have only done 1 PM. It used 3.25 lb of grain. I didn't really mind using the oven, but it is the only method I have tried. I did an experiment using a small cooler and some hot water, but I lost like 10* over an hr so I thought that was to much. I came out right on OG with the...

    Hello from central Illinois

Schlenkerla, Decatur is only 45 min from here, but I don't know of any clubs around. There is some good hunting, and fishing around the area though.

    Hello from central Illinois

Hi all. I thought I would finally make a post to thank everyone for so much information. I have been lurking around for about a month now. I have done 2 extract batches, and currently have a batch of apfelwein 2 weeks in. As I write this I have my first partial mash, (American IPA from AHS)...
