    Star San / Oxidation/ IO-star / no rinse

I am counter pressure filling the bottles so I am purging with C02. I thought Saniclean was more of a cleaner than a sanitizer. Is that the product you were talking about BrunDog?

    Star San / Oxidation/ IO-star / no rinse

Hi Everyone, I love Star San but recently when bottling it occurred to me that with all the foam in the bottle how would I actually be purging all the oxygen out? Anyone else have any thoughts on this? I was considering using IO-star for the bottles and kegs but it's truly no rinse? I'd...

    Easier Yeast Propagation

Exactly. However the 10mL will not be be very dense since only a single colony will be going into it. Either way this still leave me having to make a bunch of starters. Does anyone see a problem with going from 10 mL to 1.5L in one vessel by adding wort and decanting or centrafuging at the end.

    Easier Yeast Propagation

I'm sorry. I missed a line in the original post. I meant propagation from a single colony. So I'm starting with about 10mL and working up.

    Easier Yeast Propagation

I'm wondering if anyone's got any tips/ideas for yeast propagation. The standard (make a new starter and step it up every day) is a little time consuming for just a 5 - 10 gallon batch. I'd love to be able to propagate in a a single vessel and just keep adding fresh wort. I'm considering...

    Sanitary welds on stainless

No **** :) but these are the things I need to know before committing to practicing on certain materials or even buying different equipment.

    Sanitary welds on stainless

Thanks for the reply. Maybe sanitary is the wrong word. I just want to make sure there's no nooks and crannies for junk to get stuck.

    Sanitary welds on stainless

I'm looking at MIG welding some ports in an old keg but I'm worried about how sanitary they'll be. Should I back purge the keg for MIG welding and can the weld really be sanitary if done from the outside?

    PBW to Acid Rinse

Wow, that was really interesting. So what I'm getting is, going right from the acid cycle to the PBW shouldn't cause any reaction strong enough to cause pitting of the stainless. (I'm assuming copper as well?) I'm a little hesitant though since Five Star has told me to rinse between cycles.

    PBW to Acid Rinse

I just read this article and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. What made you think you could go from the acid to the PBW with no rinse?

    PBW to Acid Rinse

I didn't think PBW was that alkaline. I was thinking a quick rinse with water would "hopefully" be enough between them. I always try to rinse a quickly as possible and with water as close to the temperature of the pbw, but there's always some stubborn spots

    PBW to Acid Rinse

I've been struggling with rinsing away the white film left behind after cleaning with PBW. I'm assuming its mineral deposit. Our brew system is all stainless steel with a copper plate chiller. We already do an acid cycle every so often with Acid cleaner #5. I'm wondering if we could go directly...

    Cell Counting

Thanks for the response. I'll definitely check it out. I understand MrMalty's not going to be perfect but that seems pretty far off.

    Cell Counting

Hi Guys, I've been struggling to find the answer to this one but have run out of ideas and was hoping someone might be able to point out something I've missed. When brewing we always use the MrMalty pitching rate calculator to determine the size of our starter. However I'd like to be able...

    Male Hops?

If I remember correctly the seeds are supposed to contribute to a higher tannin level. I don't really think its supposed to be a big deal but they don't sell them that way because it throws off the weight and for some reason I'm thinking lowers the AA content

    Male Hops?

Thanks Dan. I'd love to find some wild hops but haven't had any luck. I'll check ebay. I'd love to know the variety but I guess the wild hops would be a crap shoot anyway.

    Male Hops?

Hey guys, Does anyone have or know where I can get either seeds or male hop rhizomes? I really want to play around with some cross breeding. I know it's not the right time of year but I'll be able to keep them alive until next year. If anyone has any of these I'd definitely be willing to pay...

    Question on bottling from keg

I do everything pretty much the way you listed. However I try to keep the foaming down to almost none and make it a two person job. I'll fill the bottles almost all the way to the top and as soon as the foam start to come over the top I've have the other person cap it as quickly as possible. I...
