    S-23 Lager Yeast Educate Me

I was talking about your process. I guess i read it wrong. It sounded like you weren’t lagering. I see now that you’re transferring to a keg, then lagering.

    Keg Post Question

Just to be clear, I meant in the threads connecting the post to the keg, not on the outside of the post.

    S-23 Lager Yeast Educate Me

Maybe the W’s, but weren’t you talking about S-23?

    Keg Post Question

Shouldn’t be bad, i got it on fairly easily without making a mess. That’s tougher than getting it off.

    Keg Post Question

I'm going to start paying far more attention to my kegs than I have in the past. I am standardizing the keg posts across my collection, and dismantling them after every use instead of once or twice per year. What do you guys use on the post threads? Pipe Dope? Tape? Something else? I have both...

    S-23 Lager Yeast Educate Me

That’s way too warm with almost no lagering phase. The temp ramp up shouldn’t happen until fermentation is nearly complete, not immediately at 1-2F per day.

    S-23 Lager Yeast Educate Me

I use it all the time for many different styles. It plows through anything up to 1.055 or so for me. I have a fest-style beer lagering with it right now. I do 50 F until it is in the 1.015 range, then a diacetyl rest for 2-3 days, then go down 5 F per day until I get to 33 F. There it sits...

Advice on how to enjoy homebrewing over the years without becoming an alcoholic.

I find it very hard to give away nowadays as well. In the past, being younger, it was just much more common to have people over for various reasons or to be going to other’s homes. So I wasn’t even “giving it away” per se. Now, in our prime child raising years as the kids get older, we’re all...

Advice on how to enjoy homebrewing over the years without becoming an alcoholic.

I drink a lot, I have for a long time and quite frankly I doubt that will ever change. I don’t want it to. But… I brew moderate to low alcohol beers. I only drink in the evening/afternoon regardless of my schedule. I have zero issues not drinking should my daily activities preclude doing so. I...

    R.I.P. @Bracconiere

Brac was hilarious and I miss seeing his posts but there's no way I'm making one of those concoctions!

    Interesting Efficiency Issue

This is exactly where I think the problem lies. I think I did something wrong when I entered the new system.

    Interesting Efficiency Issue

    1. Correct 2. I doubt its a trub issue. The brewzilla drains almost completely with little trub or hop losses (I use hop bags).

    Interesting Efficiency Issue

Of course I could be wrong, but I am basing that on my 3 “old recipe” brews, all of which came in as expected.

    Interesting Efficiency Issue

Since switching to a Brewzilla around Christmastime, I have experienced wild swings in efficiency. At first I attributed this to two base malts purchased during a club trip. Everyone from the club has had issues with them, but as my use progressed, I learned that my numbers are noticeably lower...

    What happened to IPA?

Jesus 3?!? That moment was so memorable for me that whenever it comes up it only takes me minutes to find the picture. I was fishing with two Army buddies on Kodiak Island. One is a fellow homebrewer. When he saw the AB in the Coast Guard class 6 he was like a schoolgirl. I hated it!

    Rye flavour

I use rye often. I agree with everything being said here and I will add one more: I find that rye in any appreciable quantity tends to encourage chill haze. Chill haze doesn’t bother me at all, but it annoys some people.

    Spring 2024 Corny Keg Giveaway

My last brew was a Pale Ale with galaxy hops.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I don’t want to say it and jinx myself, but… you guys can assume. 😎
