    Restaurant game

We had fun taking pictures of the underside of the table. No peeking. Pass the phone around and judge the winner.

    Help with temperature control?

This is not brewing related although it looks like it could be. I wonder how that happened?;) Here is the setup. The heat comes from two cheap 1500W hot plates. The intent is for the kettles to batch out oil and lye for soapmaking. So the initial heating could vary between three and seven...

Getting power out of a recessed panel.

I am an electrician. I've never had to do this before. This is actually a personal project and I thought it worked out pretty well. I have a 1970's panel recessed in the drywall wall of the garage. I needed to get a few circuits out to use in the garage and I was planning to make additions with...

HLT to heat oil for soapmaking

Not beer related but I wanted to make sure you guys in the electric forum saw this: My wife makes soap. Lots of it. I am trying to help her streamline her process. The first step is to come up with a way to heat her oil mixture in bulk instead of a batch at a time like she is currently...

Why not let us know where you're from?

It seems a lot of folks are afraid to disclose their location around here. I have never been very specific but I give a state at least. Is there something to fear? I can count on less than one hand the times I've been assaulted by a home brewer.

    Poll-->Best Brewery Power Source

Choose what you believe is the best. Choose not what you have now but what you would have if everything was right with the world. [OTHER] If you burn wood, tell us about it. If you use solar power, tell us about it. If you do "other", tell us about it. Please vote. Thank you very much.

    Transport shotgun on motorcycle

I brought home a brand new xr650 today. One thing I want to do with it is to go bird hunting. I would like to set up a nice secure way to transport my shotgun. I like the hardshell ATV cases but I'm not sure how to best mount one on a bike. Anyone done this or have any suggestions?

    Source for sheet stainless steel

Anyone know of a good source for sheet stainless? I am looking for 2' x 3' sheets 22ga. or slightly thicker. The 2' dimension is the only critical one. If I could get them custom cut and better yet, cut and bent into a "U" channel without the price going through the roof, that would be great...

    Is This A Firkin' Firkin?

It acutally has a corked bung hole:ban: I don't know if that is a date code but I see 11-64 stamped on it. It is aluminum. would this thing have any practical homebrewing use? I'm thinking it would make a nice light fixture or two (sawed in half). It would look cool over a bar or pool...

10 Gallon to 1 Barrel Upgrade

I am going to try to do a decent job of documenting this here. Maybe more for my own benefit. I have not touched the old system yet. I will post some pics and specs on that before I tear into it. The plan so far: 55g BK (9kW), 40g MLT (stout tank thanks to my brew buddy), 30g HLT (dual...

    Two Vessel HLT

I have a 11kW 1/2 Barrel Sanke HLT. We are looking to move up to 20 gallon or possibly 1bbl batches. I really don't want to start from scratch with a bigger HLT so I was thinking about just tying another keg to the existing HLT. Here is a chicken scratch drawing of the plumbing (sorry it's...

    Rice/Potato GF bread help...

Bought wifey a zojirushi bread machine for xmas. Wheat breads are turning out very nice but the GF ones we try are flopping horribly. We had all the recommend ingredients except the xanthan gum ( replaced with corn starch). Is that the problem? There is no dough, it looks like batter... Any...

Reverse Polish Notation - HP 48G

If the title made any sense to you, you are a huge geek:mug: I just dug mine up and it still works! I still love the unit conversions...might be handy on a brewday? I searched and see you can still buy these for about 200 big-uns. Make me an offer:) GEEK PORN:

    Wintergreen

I've started collecting some for a stout. I have no idea how to incorporate it into a brew. Any ideas on how to get that aroma/flavor into the beer?

    Evil face in your beer!

I swear I just had one in the lacing on my glass. It scared me so I guess I drank it. Someone must have some pictures of evil lacing. I hope it never happens again but i'll take a pic next time.

Small Engine Guys...My Mower Just Died!!!!

I started it and came in to let it warm up and get a beer. It was running for a few minutes...then I heard a weird sound and it died. It's a Craftsman w/ Briggs engine. Now if I hit the starter, there seems to be no compression. It spins real easy like. I've taken pretty good care of...

A hairy little addition to the family.

Here is the new additon to the family (and hopefully the last for a long while). Wifey brought him home a few minutes ago. I wasn't really ready for him but I'm sure we will be best buds before long. His name is Riesling.

    skid steer

I want/need one. How much would you pay to own an old tired machine to help landscape a few(4) acres. I see one nearby for $3800. Seems steep for the POS it looks like. But it beats shoveling I guess....

    Graduation Gift - Trip to?????

My daughter is graduating high school this year with better than 4.0! I am very proud of her and want to give her something special and memorable as a graduation gift. I'm thinking of a trip for her and a friend before she begins the college grind. I'm not much of a traveler myself so would...

    Electrical Components Thread

I have seen many good components come up in build threads. People are always recommending one thing or another but everything is scattered around in so many threads that it can be hard to find what you are looking for at times. I was thinking that it may be helpful if we all make our...
