Burner Deal for Cleveland, OH area brewers (Costco)

I picked up a 60k burner at the Mayfield Heights Costco today for $29.97. Amazon link to the exact burner they have below. They were $49.99 there just a week ago. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001D32QK/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 Just thought I'd pass along my good fortune. They had at...

    Infection? with pics

My biochemist wife says the filiment type structures look indicative of mold. Molds can be nasty and even highly toxic. Without a positive ID on the growth.... i'd dump it. There are few bacteria who can call a beer home and that doesnt look like any of them. But its not even the organisms you...

    I did something stupid.

You would be suprised how small of a concentration it could take for some compounds to be poisonous. If you know someone with a lab/mass spec you could always ask them to test it for you, or the rocks..... Or call the nearest University, their chemistry department may be willing to run a quick...

Has anyone actually brewed a hopless beer? and without bittering of any sort?

Isn't beer without hops essentially "malt liquor"?

How much is too much ullage???

I recently fermented a 2.5 gallon batch in a 6 gallon better bottle. To date it is one of my best brews. I wouldn't worry about it.

I buy Carlo Rossi Wine for the Bottle, do you?

Use for carlo rossi wine, you say? Buy a mother culture, dilute 1:1, make vinegar!

    Dishwasher to sanitize bottles?

My two cents.... I think you're going to be hit or miss on the dishwasher. The temperatures may be high enough at dry time, but you're probably wasting alot of water for nothing considering the jets proabably aren't getting water inside of half your bottles. So... if you haven't thouroughly...

    Propagation and Starter Review

I understnad what you're trying to accomplish. I don't think the hops are at all neccesary. You're basically making a large starter. Also according to alot of what I've read it is best to "step up" your cell counts. In otherwords, do 1 litre, then put that into 2 litres, then put that into 4...

    Immersion Chiller - Under $30

If I can make a suggestion... Bend the ends where your hoses attach downward and away from your pot like /| so if you get a leak in a hose it doesn't drop into your wort. In my very complex diagram in the previous sentence your hoses would attach to the bottom end of the / and the | represents...

    Sour mash smells like vinegar!

I thought Acetobactor required a substrate containing alcohol to propogate? Isn't it more of a threat in an actual beer than a mash? Isn't it possible that a sour mash (considering it is acidic) could have a vinegarish smell?

    Best LHBS in Cleveland area??

This is a bit late, but here's my two cents. I have frequented the Grape and Granary. Have no complaints. Nice fresh ingredients, good help, decent prices. There is a place called Leeners in Northfield. I have bought items from them, but never any AG ingredients. They do seem to stock...

    Son of a gun!

Are you sure you got pacman and maybe not another yeast? Some breweries use different yeast for bottle conditioning than they use for primary fermentation.

    DIY Tumbler from Beer Bottles

I'm probably the only person on HBT who cares about such things, but if you glue the bottle I would attempt to glue iti n such a way that the liquid inside would not contact the glue. For reasons of chemical leeching and reactions morethan anything else.

GE 7 CF (FCM7SUWW) keezer conversion

Yep, I think liquid nails is better suited for attaching something to a flat surface. I.E. wainscotting to a wall, or even a peice of trim. Applications with alot of surface area. In your application I think it would be better suited as a enhancement to a nail or screw.

    Alabama Homebrewer Arrested

My personal favorite part of the picture is the rifle scopes. Trying to make it look as if they were confescated with the equipment as if he was protecting his illegal shadetree brewery with firearms. That sherriff, and that picture, is what's wrong with America. *********.

Feeling bad about not using my LHBS

This reminds me of something I wanted to say in my previous post... Some businesses SHOULD go out of business. The $4 extract and the only 1lb increment thing are an exmple of a business who isn't in touch with the needs of their consumers, and the pricing structure of their competition. If...
