    Yeast Washing - did I mess up

    I poured contents from fermentor in sterile container last week. It settled and I pitched the yeast on Thursday but no activity. Or did I? I only pitched the liquid and not the sediment. Is this the wrong thing? Is the "sediment" really the yeast

    When I get my ph right, I get 70% doing a double batch sparge, usng 1.5 to 1.75 quarts per lb for the mash, crushing with a JSM Malt Mill and doing a 75 min sacc rest. My AG brew day takes 4 hours by the way Anyway, I am happy with 70 % and don't want to "chase" efficiency but as a tweak am...

    Question for the long-time brewers

    This is a good question. I started in 91, quickly moved to AG, brewed until 1994 and got back into it in 2008. Kids are growing and it is relaxing hobby. I like the self sufficiency element.

    Is bottle conditioning as good as a "secondary"?

    Has anyone had luck aging in a keg? one of the posters feels that 2 weeks in secondary improves beer and speeds up maturation by a month. Maybe keg, vent and stick in fridge for two weeks before carbing?

    Low Efficiency and Water

    I live in Dallas and we have somewhat alkaline water. Yesterday brewed Biermunchers Centennial Blond and got 57% efficiency rather than 68-72% typical for me. Everything was same including the crush but used 2 gallons distilled water in addition to 2 gallons of tap for the mash. My idea was...
