Too much priming sugar, run for cover?

Well it's been about a month since I made my mistake and only one bottle broke. I picked the bottle up from the bathtub where it was in storage and the bottom of the bottle was stuck to the tub. I was kind of shocked when the bottle felt lighter than usual. Anyway, the beer is EXTREMELY...

Too much priming sugar, run for cover?

What works 99.9% of the time? Throwing them away? That would work 100% of the time. I've had 4 people PM me saying that opening and resealing will probably work, and 1 other person told me they've used nearly that much sugar and did not have an explosion.

Too much priming sugar, run for cover?

Thanks for the feedback. It's been almost 48 hours now and I popped open two groelish bottles this morning and they had a nice, gentle "pop" and then some decent bubbling. I think I am going to pop them all open tonight and let them sit for about a minute each and then reseal. Dunno...

Too much priming sugar, run for cover?

When you put it that way, the answer is pretty obvious. However, I thought it would be fairly easy to try and save my work by letting off some pressure half way through the carbonation process.

Too much priming sugar, run for cover?

I'm a bit worried about this. I think my only hope for saving the batch is to open the bottles at some point to let off the pressure and then put new caps on them. I just have to decide when to time it so that adequate pressure and carbonation can still build up. I am thinking about 3-4...

Too much priming sugar, run for cover?

When a bottle explodes, is it loud? Do I have potential hand grenades? :D I have them all in a spare bathroom in the bathtub and covered them all with a couple of blankets. I am afraid it they do explode and are too loud if they will scare my 6 yr daughter. I am also worried if one...

How to tell if a brew batch is safe to drink?

You need to bottle the beer and send to us for analysis. :mug: I may be wrong here (I'm quite the noob myself) but I don't think there's anything that can happen to the beer that will make you sick - unless you add a poisonous ingredient. In other words, I don't think the normal...

Wife's reaction to new brewing hobby?

My wife doesn't mind too much unless (like yesterday) I have a mess in the kitchen when she's trying to make dinner. We both hate the smell that boiling wort leaves in the house, so I seep the grains in the house and then when it's time to boil, I move out to the turkey fryer in the garage. ;)

Too much priming sugar, run for cover?

How did this turn out? I made a 5 gallon batch of Hefe and bottled it yesterday. My wife gave me a different measuring cup and I wasn't really thinking and I accidentally used 1 3/4 cup of corn sugar which is just about double the amount needed. My situation sounds similar to yours. I...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Big Brother Peanut Butter Brown

Yummy, I can't wait to hear how it turns out. Thanks!

Air exposure - is my beer ruined?

Whew, thanks! I thought the risk was that airborne yeast would get into the wort so I was more worried about that. The nut brown should go well with cigars, so I am sure it will be consumed quickly in our neighborhood. :mug: I love your avatar!! :mug:

Air exposure - is my beer ruined?

Hi all - I brewed a batch of nut brown ale yesterday and put the wort in a 6.5 gallon carboy with a rubber cork and a hose in the cork for blow off. After I got the fermenter situated in the bathtub, I left the house for about two hours. When I came back home, I discovered that the cork...

    Temprature question

Great, sounds good, thanks. I will cross my fingers, and also try to swap bathrooms with my six year old since her's is cooler and more stable. :D

    Suggestions for an extract hefeweizen?

Cool thanks, I can't wait. And my neighbors too!

    Temprature question

Thanks. The bubbling slowed significantly yesterday (48 hours after pitch) but it's still bubbling some. I was worried if the temporary 80 degree temp killed them off.

    Greetings from Fort Worth, TX

Thanks for the encouragement gang! I can't wait to bottle my batch from Sunday. I've been telling my neighbors about homebrew for the past four years so I know they are anxious as well. :tank:

    Greetings from Fort Worth, TX

I tried home brewing about five years ago and made two batches of malt extract kits. One came out "ok". Not great, but it wasn't bad. It was very bitter and nobody would drink it but me. The second kit I bought was a lager extract. I was told I should brew it and ferment it like an ale, which I...

    Suggestions for an extract hefeweizen?

I just was updating my log while eating my lunch and realized that I actually did use 7lbs of LME, NOT DME. :drunk: I can't wait to bottle it. This is my first batch in 4-5 years so wanted to do something easy to get my confidence back.

    Temprature question

I have a similar question: I am fermenting a basic Hefe using WLP300 Hefeweizen. I have a thermometer floating in the water bucket that's catching my blow off. A few hours after brewing it read 72. I went in last night and it was up to 80. YIKES!!! Apparently this dark, unused bathroom...
