I have the same question as @rob_mcd - are the PVC and the pipe really both the same diameter? I'm thinking of using a scaled down version of this myself.

That's nice to know, but overnight seems like overkill. Yeast vials seem to do just fine with a couple of ice packs. Not trying to complain, because it's pretty awesome they are releasing these at all. It inspired me to make what I think will be a pretty tasty brew of my own too.

I appreciate the offer, but I just brewed my own Belgian IPA 2 weeks ago. Hoping to end up somewhere between Raging Bitch and Allagash Hugh Malone.

Let us know how that goes - was disappointed they aren't shipping the kits out at all.

Interestingly enough Flying Dog is releasing a homebrew kit for this in March, but you have to buy in person. They are not shipping so that's a no go for me. Would be interesting to see what they put together and compare it to these.

Help! I wired this up and it worked great, except didn't break the tab so it always turned on both outlets. I only need to cool, but to be safe I went ahead and opened it up and broke the tab. Now, it still powers up, but the cool light blinks and neither outlet ever gets any power. Thoughts?

Replying waaaay late, but yes, I did a five gallon batch. I've made mine 3 times now, and have settled on using six ounces of grated ginger. It's very ginger forward, but a damn good beer IMO.

I have a hardback copy of this in good condition. There is some wear on the corner of the jacket, but in very good overall shape. I'd really like to trade for one of the brewing/gardening related books out there, but will consider a trade for most anything - other books, equipment, whatever.

I ordered four extract kits from Northern Brewer via mail order. I also had two Activator packs. One is fine. The other is swollen a but, but the nutrient pack was not popped. The ice pack was completely warm when I opened the box. I went ahead and popped the nutrient pack, but is this safe to...

Now I question where I read that you wouldn't. If it were to sit for a day, could you tell after that there was activity?

When using a stir plate, if you won't see the kraussen, or CO2 escaping, how do you know the yeast is viable and working?
