Michigan (Detoit Suburbs) 8 Cases of long neck bottles

For Sale - 8 cases of long neck bottles with original case boxes. I bought these new from my LHBS new, they are not recycled commercial bottles. They've only had 2-3 batches in them so they're all in very good condition. They've been stored in my basement so the bottles and case boxes are all...

    Thermoworks Smoke Unit

I bought one of these to use both when smoking (mostly) ribs, brisket, chicken, etc., on my Weber kettle grill and plan to use it to monitor my mash temp when brewing. I'm very happy with how well this thing works. I got an e-mail this morning advertising an open box sale for them and thought...

Efficiency Lower Than Expected - Expert Advice Wanted

On Saturday I brewed an all grain batch and ended up with a lower OG than expected. The recipe I used is below as is a pic of my set-up. I have been using this set-up for years now and have hit the OG of other recipes right on the mark in the past, but not on Saturday. I expected to hit the...

    Question About Bottling Cider

I have a question about bottling cider. My wife bought a couple CHS kits and wants us (me) to make them. I have made lots of home brew and do not keg. In Yooper's 'Cider for Beginners' sticky she mentions having to pasteurize bottles. When bottling home brew I always soak my caps and...

    Citra Pale Ale

Here is my set-up for mashing and sparging while I was brewing a nice Citra Pale Ale recipe I got from a work colleague. I didn't take any pictures of the boil 'cause boiling is boiling. I brewed this on March 15th and bottled it on Easter Sunday. It's too young to try just yet but I think it...

Anybody ever try this or hear about it?

Has anybody heard of or tried eating hop shoots? SWMBO sent me this link yesterday and wanted me to print it for her. She wants to try this next spring. I'll try any food thing once, I'm not sure if I should try this with my cascade, centennial, willamette or kent goldings. There's also a...

NB Extract Kits - heads up!

:mad:I just tried to order a couple of extract kits from Northern Brewer and requested that they not crush the grains with the kits. I was told that they can't leave the "specialty grains" that are included with the kits whole (not crushed). Here's my problem with this: 1) I was planning...

    White Labs Vials Glue

Does anybody have a good method of getting the label glue off of the white labs vials? I have about 6 of them that I plan on using for washing yeast. I've tried using Goof-Off but it ruined the plastic on one so now I only have 6 left. And yes, I know that I can buy brand new ones from...

Anyone used home grown hops for bittering?

Similar to the 'wet hop vs dried hop' thread, I am wondering if anyone has used only home grown hops for both bittering and aroma? I know that most home growers don't know the alpha acid content/percentage but I'd like to know if anyone has tried it and how it worked out. I have a pretty...

    Third Shift Brewing?

Has anyone tried the Third Shift Brewing Amber Lager yet? I've been seeing commercials for it on TeeVee lately but never heard of it before. Curious to know what those who have tried it think about it. Thanks everybody.

    Fittings - need help

Does anybody know where I can get a NPT (tapered) thread female to NPS (straight) thread male adapter for 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" pipe? I need to get a couple for a water filter installation but I can't find a source.

    Which one to brew next?

I'm planning on brewing one of these two beers for my next batch to have on hand for when it finally gets warm here: BierMunchers Centennial Blonde - or - Ed Wort's Bee Cave Brewery Kolsch I've never made either one before, they both sound really good from all of the comments I've...

    Centennial Flavor

Hey everybody, I have a question about the flavor of centennial hops. And before you flame me for not searching the forums, I did. I read the post with the vote for personal preference between cascade and centennial and other posts as well. So, here's my question, for those of you who have...

    Question about estimating OG

Hi all, On Christmas day, I brewed a Belgian Dubbel extract kit from NB. My final volume was 4 1/2 gallons and my O.G. was 1.068 taken from the brew kettle. I added 1/2 gallon of filtered water right before pitching my yeast to get the final volume up to 5 gallons. Here's my question: after...

Question about bottling a Belgian Tripel

I have a Belgian Tripel in my secondary right now and am wondering about how much bottling sugar to use when I get ready to bottle it. I made the NB Belgian Tripel extract kit but didn't boil it all the way down from 6 to 5 gal. I ended up with 5 1/2 gal (thought I was losing too much to...

Single Grain / Single Hop Recipe

I was wondering if anyone has ever made a single grain and single hop beer? What would an ale taste like if you only used like, say, 12 lbs of Two Row and 1-2 oz Willamette for a 5 gallon batch, with a mash temp of 150-154 for an hour? Any ideas?

Hey everbody, I've got a question for you all. What extract ingredient kits you've bought, where did you get them, and how did they turn out? I'm looking to stock up on a few extract kits while I have the money and before I get laid off. So, I'm looking for some suggfestions from all of...

Question about hop addition at flameout

If a recipe calls for a hop addition at flameout, or at 0 min. How long do you leave them in for? Do you just put them in and then turn off the flame and then take them right back out again? Or do you leave them in until the wort is cooled down to pitching temp and then take them out? Thanks.
