More maple ?'s Have you succeeded in making a maple beer?

Has anyone used the fake maple syrup from the cereal isle, isn't it just sugar + maple flavoring? The sugar would ferment out and just leave the maple flavor right?

    stuck fermentation?

I gave it a good swirl and things have picked up nicely. Actual bubbles passing through the airlock, it barely did that before. Looks good. Thanks, A.

    stuck fermentation?

It's been around 70 for most of the time, most likely not ever below 67. When I've taken samples off the top, there is definitely yeast floating on top, looks and smells like it anyway.

    stuck fermentation?

Long time homebrewer, first time making cider here. My dad called me up and asked if I would help him press his apples... No problem, came home with 5 gallons of fresh pressed cider in an assortment of jugs and old water bottles... Dumped it all in my fermenter, added 2 lbs of corn sugar...

Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

Just brewed this one last week, I've been obsessing over this recipe for about a month or longer, read through the entire thread! Of course the June Seattle heat wave had to coincide exactly with my brewing schedule, temps in the 90's, I was worried about fermentation temps. Couldn't...

    Cheaper alternative the the Thermapen

For the price thermapen should be a bit more bombproof. I'm on my second one and probably won't ever buy another one. Not nearly waterproof... big fail on their part. Also I'm beginning to despise any electronic device that uses ridiculously expensive button type batteries. Anyway, my...

Taking bottled beer on the road == lot's o foam

Often over the holidays I take my bottled brews over to friends and family. Usually right after I get there we crack a few, then the resulting foam begins :( I'm guessing the time in the car (usually less than 20 min) agitates it too much. Does anyone have a trick to get around this problem...

    Broken mercury thermometer in mash

I'm not sure any mercury was actually spilled. The thermometer is under a vacuum so when it broke in half it sucked in water to the side with the bulb of mercury on it. The hole inside the thermometer is microscopic, a hair wouldn't even fit in it. I'm taking the remains of the thermometer to...

    Broken mercury thermometer in mash

I was just stirring my mash and snapped a high precision mercury filled thermometer in half inside my mash. Am I done? or can it be salvaged ? It looks like the mercury is still in the bottom half of the thermometer.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

    No carbonation, what next?

Well I went ahead and opened them up and added a bit of yeast to each one... Been almost three weeks... Nothing, no carbonation. Poured it down the drain today. Some of them developed a haze, probably infected. Oh well, time to move on. Learned a good lesson. To not be a lazy bastard and...

    No carbonation, what next?

I guess I'll give adding yeast a try. I'll go with the YooperBrew method. Thanks for all the input.

    No carbonation, what next?

I brewed my beer earlier this winter, fermentation was fine. I just got too bogged down with other stuff to do and it sat in primary in my sometimes 25-40 degree garage for two months after fermentation was complete. I finally decided to bottle. I used coopers tabs for priming (same as prior...
