    Anybody made a hoppy wheat?

I made this recipe about a year ago. The only change I made was to use 6lbs of Wheat LME instead of Wheat DME. It was my first partial mash brew, and definitely one of the best brews I've ever made. Drink it fast, though, the dry hop additions lose their punch pretty quickly...

IPA first time partial mash. How does this look??

I agree, try and do more two row and less extract if you can manage. I've been following the deathbrewer PM method for quite a few batches now. It isn't any harder to mash more grain, in fact I can usually keep my mash temperature better with more grain. One thing I'd add is that I got much...

    1554 Clone?

I just brewed an attempt at a 1554 clone today, based on some recipes I've read at various times online. I hunch it'll be missing "something", but my initial taste was pretty good. 5.0 lb Munich LME 1.5 lb Marris Otter 1.5 lb Munich 1.0 lb CaraPils 1.0 lb Aromatic Malt 0.75 lb Carafa II...

    Selling beer cheese?

I'd love to see the recipe for making beer cheese. Is it pretty easy?

Interesting recipes with amarillo or cascade (and rye?)

Wow BierMuncher, that looks great. I'm definitely brewing that. Since I'm doing 5 gallon batches, I cut all the ingredients in half. To convert to PM, I subbed out 4 lbs of the 2 row for 3 lbs of LME. Sound about right? Now, one more recipe, and I'll be set to make an order :) Thanks for the...

Interesting recipes with amarillo or cascade (and rye?)

Ok, I'm game for learning partial mash brewing. Any tried-and-true PM recipes? I've only got a 7 gallon pot for my boil, will that be enough for a PM brew?

Interesting recipes with amarillo or cascade (and rye?)

I've never done a partial mash before, but I've got an extra 6 gallon pot I can use as a mash tun, in the style of DeathBrewer's Easy PM method. Maybe it's time to learn? My next batch will be number 20, after all. :)

Interesting recipes with amarillo or cascade (and rye?)

Yep, I love the recipe as well. It is great as-is, but I really want to try another batch with a dry hop, just for fun. I experimented with my second batch, adding 1/4lb of munich, and didn't like the result too much. I want to try it with magnum for bittering hops as well; using so much...

Interesting recipes with amarillo or cascade (and rye?)

Hey all. I hate to be posting here asking for recipes, but I've searched the recipe database, and I haven't found anything that really sounds new and interesting. I've got 1/2 pound each of amarillo and cascade. Also 1oz of whole willamette. I've made the All Amarillo IPA twice, and a...

    Obsidian Stout Clone

Here's an extract recipe I found a while back. I haven't even had the Obsidian Stout yet, much less brewed this recipe. Here it is any way ;) Recipes Page 2

    Dry Hopping Strategy Questions

I've never used whole hops for dry hopping. The one time I dry hopped, I added the pellet hops directly to the primary. After a week, they had settled out. I had no problem racking to a bucket for bottling.

    Grapefruit

I'm told summit hops have a very grapefruit-like taste. I haven't had the opportunity to try them yet. Amarillo and Cascade are definitely both very citrus-like, but I'd put them closer to orange than grapefruit.

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

I made this recipe about 2 months ago. I added too much water to the boil, so I had a low OG 1.055. I bottled after 3 weeks in primary, FG 1.013. The result is fantastic, though it is a bit bitter for my taste. I hunch this is due to the wort being diluted from the additional water. I just...

    Mirror Pond by Deschutes

I just tried one of my Mirror Pond clones. It has only been in the bottles for two weeks, it still needs a bit more aging. My recipe is: 6 lb Ultralight LME 1 lb Crystal 20L steeped 30min @ 160F 1 oz Cascade @ 60min 1 oz Cascade @ 15min 1 oz Cascade @ dry hop Safale S-05 dry yeast It is a good...

    Safale US-05 Attenuation

US-05 has always been very fast for me. Usually no more than about 4 days until the krausen starts settling out. I split a batch of APA between US-05 and S-04. The US-05 was about a day faster, however both were very fast, and I enjoy using both of them. I also recently brewed a Hefeweizen with...

    Avoiding the bananas...

An easy and cheap thing to do is go to the auto parts store, and buy a plastic oil pan big enough for your fermenter. Fill it with water. Wrap an old tshirt around your fermenter to wick up the water. Put a fan on it to increase the cooling if you need to. My beer has been pretty solid at 63F...

    Brew of the Sierras!

I live in the eastern sierra (Bishop, CA). The only local brewery I know about is the Mammoth Brewing Co. They make the 395 IPA, which definitely has juniper flavors. You can try finding a clone or getting some, and trying to duplicate it. I've only had it once, but I really like the stuff...

What do you do with your spent grains?

I've been making bread with them. I'm still doing extract batches, so I don't have much grain. Also, so far lighter grains (from Pale Ale) have done better than grain from making Stout. I really like it, but I like multigrain bread. My basic recipe is: what was 1/2 lb grain before it got used...

    bread

If you're using regular bread yeast, it should probably be ok. Mix it with some sugar water 30 minutes before you add it to the flour to make the dough. Just to wake it up. I've used spent grain from beermaking to make bread, but I've always used new yeast. My last batch came out really well, I...

Hopping with an Extract Brew - Questions

I've just started using the late extract addition technique. I haven't tried the beer yet, so no opinions on taste. I just put in half of the sugars (by eye, I didn't measure) at the beginning of the boil. At 15 to the end, I added the rest. The only bottles I've had trouble with are Pilsner...
