    Hops leaves browning

This looks like a pretty severe nutrient deficiency. Calcium at least and possibly iron. When was the last time you applied fertilizer and what was it?

    hops deficiency

Throughout my day I've been coming back to these pictures and trying to come to a conclusion. The elderberry having the same pattern is interesting. Some bacterial infections are smelly, so I was hoping. Some fungal infections either do something different on the other side of the leaf, or...

    hops deficiency

I think this is either Magnesium or Calcium deficiency. It could also be a virus, but I don't think it's apple mosaic virus if it is. Might be worth hitting it with some dolomitic limestone if you have access to that (otherwise, I'm sure there are other mineral amendments. Some key patterns...

    hops deficiency

When you can, can you post a picture of the top and bottom of the same leaf? Some fungi cause different patterns on the top and bottoms. Also are the dying cones crispy or mushy? If they're mushy, do they have a smell? If you're applying KOH, it's probably not chlorine toxicity. The tomato...

    hops deficiency

Hey, I might be on to something! What kind of Potassium did you add? If it was potassium chloride, you might have chlorine toxicity it doesn't typically look quite that toasted, but the bleaching and burning in spots and eventually reaching the cones seems to check out.

    hops deficiency

How frequently are you watering the leaves? I wonder if you might be just washing off the powdery mildew each time. This is really boggling my mind because it really looks like damage from downy mildew, and I wanted to challenge you on saying you don't have that in Australia... but all I could...

    Hops and Lantern Flies

I posted on another thread about lanternflies here, but the short end of it is there are a few products out there that are a spore suspension of a fungus known to infect lanternflies. You can also purchase a spore suspension combined with pyrethrin. This could help you knock down their...

Help me choose the 3 hop varieties I'll grow.

Plant pathologist here (well... a few months from graduation anyway!) Insects aren't my favorite topic, in fact they're second only to weeds, but: Beauveria has been found to infect Spotted Lanternfly. It's a fungus you can introduce that will stick around for awhile and spread. This will also...

    What are you drinking now?

Giving a pumpkin beer another try tonight. This one advertises itself on the bottle as having a strong pumpkin flavor, and it definitely does have squashy flavor. A little sweet. Way higher alcohol content than I expected it to have. Feels a little like drinking a fizzy pumpkin liqour

    Hops trouble

Thanks for the clarification. From how it was written I couldn't tell if you were including spider mites with the other 3.

    Hops trouble

Would you say the Big 4 are Verticillium, Downy Mildew, Powdery Mildew, and Spider mites?

    Hops trouble

Or you know, you do you. This was a thread asking for pest ID, not how to garden. Synthetic is fine if that's what you can afford. Organic gardening is not easier, the biggest reason for more cost in Organic food is more labor. A garden's job is what you want it to be. They don't exist...

    Hops trouble

I was wondering if maybe it was nitrogen burn after your reply, and I found this reddit thread: This person has very similar symptoms and it turned out to be spider mites. They're basically microscopic so you might not even see them.

    Hop Help Hurry

Budding plant pathologist here, Definitely agree with CascadeBrewer that the holes are insect damage. mashpaddled is also correct. This definitely looks like potassium deficiency. Use a slow release and well rounded fertilizer in the area this fall/winter when you do garden cleanup. I'm a big...

    Hops trouble

Budding (pardon the pun) plant pathologist here. I think this might be a nutrient deficiency. Possibly potassium. My only hesitation on that though is the very crispy edges. What is your fertilizing routine? It might be a compound of deficiencies. Alternatively, it might be Verticillium wilt...

    Disease question

The confusion was mine for not reading closely and getting distracted by pictures! Now's a great time to get on them. By now, most predatory insects are out of hibernation. I think the aphids would get to your hops regardless, but it'd be a good idea to plant the tall grasses a few feet away...

    Virus Issue? Nutrition? Any ideas

Did the fertilizer help this? I'm wondering if it was Magnesium deficiency too.

    Disease question

I am not familiar with hop susceptibility genes, but definitely possible some are more susceptible. It looks like you're starting to harvest (unless those are gherkin cucumbers in the bowl!) So I wouldn't spray any insecticides at this point. Neem oil would be the safest but I gag to think of...

    Disease question

B-Hoppy is correct, this is early Sooty Mold. This is caused by aphid honeydew so you aren't doing anything wrong, and fungicides won't help. You'll have to address the aphid problem. Insecticidal soaps or neem oil early on might help. You will definitely want to avoid spraying close to...
