    Next steps

I’m in the middle of my first batch of cider. Used 5 gallons of local pasteurized cider, 1 pound of honey and a packet of Nottingham. Been 3 weeks in primary at 65 degrees or so, and airlock activity has slowed down a lot. My initial OG reading was around 1.045. Took a sample yesterday and...

2 gallon batch in 5 gallon bucket

So I’m doing a 2 gallon batch of Porter and fermenting it in 5 gal bucket. Used S04 as my yeast. Been 48 hours and no air lock activity?? Could this be because there is so much head space in the bucket? I’ve only done a couple 5 gallon batches using S05 and got plenty of activity in the air...

    New Brew Kettle

Hey all. I’m going to be in the market for a new brew kettle. Only a couple batches of extract in at this point. Want to get something big enough to enter biab brewing and beyond. Any recommendations. Is 100 bucks unrealistic? Thanks

    Missed my OG

Just finished a batch of Citra IPA extract kit from NB. Target OG was 1.050 and I came in at 1.046. I think I left too much of the wort in the brew kettle. I was trying to prevent the hop sludge from entering the fermenter and left too much of the wort behind. Should I be concerned?

    Hot tap water?

So I am about to embark on my second brew and will be brewing a Citra IPA kit from NB. I have a glass top stove and my first brew took a very long time to reach a boil. Any harm in starting with hot tap water? I'm sure it would speed things up quite a bit. Thanks

    Next Steps

So I’m day 11 into my first brew in 25 years!! Brewed NB chinook IPA kit and used Fermentis 05 yeast. Had really good fermentation going via the bubbler which has slowed down. Looks like my krausen is still at the top. I need to dry hop still and would like to bottle on Sunday. Here is my...

    Dry hopping advice

A couple days into my first homebrew in about 25 years. Have good fermentation going and it is bubbling away. According to my kit supposed to dry hop day 7 then leave another 7 days. I know this is a guide. Have some questions 1. When is optimal time to dry hop? 2. I will be using...

    Wort question

So I brewed my first batch yesterday in over 25 years. I used hop pellets in the boil. After cooling and transfering to primary I left behind the hops at the bottom of the pot. Should I have added them for flavor or at that point are they spent? Its an IPA and will be dry hopping next week.

    Ambient Temp

About to brew my first homebrew in almost 25 years. I am brewing th Chinook IPA from Northern Brewer. I have 2 spots in mind for fermenting. I can either put in kitchen cabinet the temp is about 60 degrees. I can also put at the top of my basement stairs which is about 67 degrees. Any...
